A few weeks ago we learned that Ducati had been with Pirro and the Desmosedici GP27 in Jerez through some publications by the Italian rider on his networks. Although the commotion was great because Michele published an onboard video and other images, all of them corresponded, as we said, to the motorcycles of the current regulations.
So the fact that the Desmosedici GP27 had lapped X seconds slower than the current ones was, quite simply, a mistake when it came to observing what was in front of everyone’s eyes. The fact is that, although it is known that they were working on the bike in Jerez, it was in tests in Misano where we were able to see next year’s bike.
We must remember that there will be important changes for next season, and that there are several brands that we have already publicly seen working on the 2027 prototypes. But we are going to focus on the GP27 with which Pirro has been riding and of which the GPOne colleagues have been able to capture images.
We understand, because there is no way to know, that the engine will be the 850 for next season. But be careful, that is still an assumption because, for example in the Pirelli tests of 2025 where there was a first contact, the Italians “capped” the 1,000 to get closer to what they expected in terms of performance. And they could have perfectly repeated that formula in case they wanted to try other components.
Which 2027 components have been tested as the basis of the Desmosedici GP27?
Well, what we do know for sure is that the front fairing is focused on the 2027 regulations and, therefore, should be at least a basis for the future GP27. We can also see that any Michelin logo has disappeared and this implies, therefore, that they are not using the French firm’s tires. Are they Pirelli? That is what it seems and also what has been leaked, in addition to what would be logical.
To top it off, we know thanks to the published video that the motorcycle does not have a height variation device. As? As simple as looking at the moment it passes sideways, you can see the motorcycle not only without bending over from behind, but also by getting up from the front.
What has not been known are the times. In addition to the fact that the Italians did not want to reveal their competitiveness, the weather in Misano was not favorable enough to seek the limits. So we will still have to wait to find out what really awaits us in 2027.
