Royal Enfield recovers a historic name, Flying Flea, for the first electric vehicle in history that will arrive on November 4

Royal Enfield’s first serial electric motorcycle already has a presentation date, the next November 4. The brand has published a teaser on its social networks where the new Flying Flea, (as it will finally be called), arrives “from another planet” to mark a milestone in the history of the Indo-British firm. Furthermore, if we let ourselves be guided by the silhouette shown in the audiovisual document, we can almost confirm that we are talking about a cruiser style frame.

On the other hand, in reference to the commercial name chosen by Royal, it recovers historical acronyms within the brand. The “Flying Flea” is one of the most iconic models of the Indo-British brand throughout its history. Among other things because it was used between 1939 and 1945 as a vehicle to motorize the British Army on the battlefield.

That is why the fact that in the teaser, the Flying Flea is shown flying in outer space hanging from a parachute is not a coincidence, but rather a nod to the model that more than eighty years ago crossed the European skies in a context of war. As we told you about a year ago, the brand was already considering the possibility of using this commercial name on a new 125 cc model and even as an electric one.

Royal Enfield Flying Flea, what we can expect

Finally, and after the patent registration of the acronym Flying Flea, in 2020, under the patent number 018194843this will end up becoming a new model of the brand, also the first in series to be electric. On the other hand, Royal Enfield has taken advantage of this historical milestone to launch a specific section of electric motorcycles on its official website.

In it he explains that: “Over the past year, our Himalayan electric testbed has opened up completely new possibilities and capabilities. It will continue to live a hard life, not going into production, but rather undergoing relentless testing in the most extreme conditions and laying the foundation for a new generation of electric two-wheelers.”

Likewise, referring to the premiere of the new Flying Flea, he argues that: “What will soon hit the roads is a new category of electric two-wheelers from Royal Enfield to answer the call of urban mobility, offering a sophisticated, agile and connected experience. Although technology advances, our commitment to purity remains. “Prepare for the fall.”

Flying Flea, the first electric Royal Enfield in history, will debut on November 4

Regarding what we can expect from this new Flying Flea, it is convenient to look back at what was the first Royal Enfield concept related to this project, the Elektrik01, of which we knew some details in the final stages of 2022. B Govindarajan, Executive Director of the brand, said then:

“Over the last 6-8 months we have been making investments in the EV space in terms of creating physical infrastructure for testing vehicles and associated preparation. We have also been recruiting good talent for our technology centers in India and the UK. Overall, we have been intensely focused on the EV space.”

In the images offered by the teaser we can see how the shapes of the tank that the Flying Flea will hypothetically mount are intuited, and these remind us de facto of those that the Elektrik01 already showed at the time.

Other notable details of the Royal concept were, for example, the central position of the engine or a double-beam suspension system, simulating those already seen in models from the beginning of the last century.

Flying Flea, the first electric Royal Enfield in history, will debut on November 4

This was anchored to the steering head from above, while below it used separate lateral shock absorbers, joining it with the fork legs. The fuel tank adopted an elongated shape sporting a brand emblem with an “R” in the center. The front was dominated by a classic design headlight with a black upper casing and the front wheel would be a multi-arm light alloy, similar in design to those used on a standard Meteor 350.

Now we only have to wonder if all of these technical solutions, or some of them, will definitely reach the Flying Flea. But to know all those details we will have to wait until November 4, when Royal Enfield will enter a new era as a brand by presenting its new plug-in mount.
