Suzuki GSX-R1100 “Renngixxer” by Nigel’s Creative Customs

The well-known Suzuki GSX-R1100, from the late 80s, has become a cult object both for purists of the model and for those looking to carry out some type of restomod preparation. This is the case of our protagonist today, the “Renngixxer” (Renn means race in German) from Nigel’s Creative Customs. This work of art, as its author, 30-year-old Nigel “Nigello” Weber, explains, is the result of his passion for engines and competition:

“My passion began very early, we could say before my birth. My father took my mother (who was pregnant with me) for a spin around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in his Porsche 911 RSR. Being named after Formula 1 driver Nigel Mansell also had an effect.”

As he tells his Bike Bound colleagues, Nigello used his Yamaha FT50 at just 13 years old to recreate his first preparation. Comment that: “I’m not interested in building something that everyone has, I prefer to express myself with the things I build. So customizing a bike to me is like painting. It is art.”

Nigel, who in addition to competing as an amateur under the name Fuzzy Racing, has also opened his own preparation center Nigel’s Creative Customs, NCC (@ncc_bikes). Now with this 1989 GSX-R1100 “Slingshot”, in reference to its flat gate carburetors, it shows us what it is capable of. With it, the possibility of using it on the track or on the road alternates, of course, thanks to the countless improvements implemented in the set.

While maintaining the standard front fork, this GSX-R1100 “Renngixxer” is equipped with high-specification K-Tech components. It also has Gimbel Racing rear footrests, Metzeler M7 RR tires or a Devil 4-in-1 exhaust system. Other improvements that this restomod preparation has are a set of K&N filters and an adjustment and restoration of the carburetors.

Regarding the aesthetics of Nigel’s GSX-R1100, the side fairings have been flattened and include Fiberman air intakes. The rear tail belongs to an FZR1000, while the final decoration is inspired by the motorcycles that our protagonist’s father competed with in his time. Regarding what was the main design concept when approaching this project, Nigel comments:

“I wanted to make an old-school racing bike in the style of the old endurance racing bikes from the 70s and 80s, which are the ones I like the most. It should also be roadworthy for testing. That’s why I built it so you can easily switch from street mode to race mode with a nice AMA style license plate (made by Fiberman in the UK).”
