The image that one has of the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is not, precisely, the one that looks like the incredible preparation of the guys at Icon Motorsportspresented at EICMA 2024 after the brand itself was commissioned by this American specialist based in Portland, Oregon.
And as it could not be otherwise, taking into account the philosophy of each and every one of the team’s projects, the result is overwhelming.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 by Icon Motorsports in detail
The Bike Exif colleagues were the first to echo this incredible preparation by Icon Motosports. A work in which the classic Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 has mutated into an explosive café racer with dragster touches, sporting an iconic eighties retro look. It is obvious that in order to shape this customization, the friends at Icon Motorsports had to make significant changes to the original configuration.
The one that stands out the most is the modification of its chassis, with profound changes in the chassis and subframe, also eliminating the wheels and suspensions that the Shotgun 650 uses as standard. Now we find a front axle belonging to a 2015 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. Brembo braking was also borrowed from this, and custom EBC discs were incorporated.
Another identifying element of this project is the tire and tire equipment that Icon Motorsports has used in its customization. The first are inspired by the classic Astralite racing wheels. The tires chosen are 16” Avon Cobra (but painted with the GoodYear logo).
Looking at the back we come across a swingarm made up of components from a 2015 Kawasaki Ninja 650. This is interconnected with the central part of the chassis by means of two custom-made Nitron side shock absorbers.
If we move on to the aesthetic aspect, then we can take into account a body that includes a Yamaha RD400 fuel tank, equipped with a resistance-style filler cap. The front fairing, signed by Air Tech, is initially designed for the Yamaha FZ750, although conveniently adapted by the Icon Motosports team. This also includes air intakes grafted from another fairing and functional aerodynamic fins.
Other really interesting details that this Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 by Icon Motorsports equips are, for example:
- Colin from a Buell S2 Thunderbolt,
- Handcrafted racing seat
- Handcrafted exhaust system with parts from S&S Cycle
- Custom made fork protectors
- Sport keel protector
- K&N filters
- Pro Grip Grips,
- Magura components, etc.
To top off this incredible preparation from Icon Motorsports we have a livery that recreates the origins of the company, highlighting the Indo-British brand itself. A legendary compendium that takes the newly released Shotgun 650 to another totally different dimension for which the successful Royal Enfield custom model was born.
