Electrification has become one of the main ways to reduce transport emissions, but suzukiwith the Gixxer SF 250 FFVdoes not seem willing to abandon the gasoline engine so quickly. Its strategy involves “exploring different solutions” and one of them is precisely the flexible fuela technology that allows the use of different proportions of gasoline and bioethanol without the pilot having to worry about changing the engine configuration.
The protagonist, Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 FFVwas “presented in India at the beginning of 2025 and, in addition, has been developed specifically for this market.” own suzuki confirms that it is a version compatible with fuels containing up to 85% bioethanol. And although at the moment it is not designed for Europe, its approach is especially interesting now that several countries are looking for alternatives to conventional gasoline.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 FFV: adapts to fuel
The philosophy FFVacronym for «Flex Fuel Vehicle“, is relatively simple: “instead of designing the engine to work with a single proportion of ethanol, all fuel-related systems are prepared to accept different concentrations.” In the case of the Gixxer SF 250the margin goes from E20 until E85. That is, you can use a fuel with 20% ethanol and 80% gasoline, but also one with up to 85% ethanol and only 15% gasoline. Besides, suzuki indicates that the motorcycle is also compatible with conventional gasoline.
The difference with respect to a conventional motorcycle is in the ability of the electronics to recognize what fuel is being used and modify the engine power accordingly. To achieve this, suzuki has had to modify different components. The injector receives internal materials that are more resistant to corrosion caused by humidity associated with ethanol and its flow rate increases.
The fuel pump has also been revised, while the feeding system incorporates specific filters to prevent impurities from causing blockages. The oxygen sensor also has a fundamental role. The control unit analyzes the combustion and estimates the concentration of ethanol present in the tank to adjust the amount of fuel injected in real time. In other words, the user can refuel one mixture or another without having to worry about making manual adjustments.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 FFV: 27.9 HP with E85
The mechanical base continues to be an engine that we know for its simplicity: a 250 cc single-cylinder, SOHC distribution and cooling through the Suzuki Oil Cooling System (SOCS), accompanied by technology Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP). It is associated with a 6-speed transmission and, curiously, its power figures are slightly higher when using E85.
With E20 develops 27.2 hpat 9,300 rpm, while with E85 reaches 27.9 hp to the same regime. Maximum torque is 22.5 Nm at 7,300 rpm. The explanation lies in the characteristics of ethanol. Although it has a lower energy density than gasoline and, therefore, consumption may increase, its higher octane rating allows working with a combustion that is more resistant to detonation and taking advantage of certain advantages in engine management.

The cold is one of your main enemies
The system has, however, an important peculiarity. Ethanol vaporizes worse than gasoline when temperatures are low, so a high concentration can make cold starting difficult and affect combustion stability.
suzuki has had to contemplate this scenario and the digital instrumentation of the Gixxer SF 250 FFV incorporates specific notices. One alerts the motorist when the ambient temperature is low and the ethanol concentration is high, while another may recommend adding gasoline to reduce that proportion. The brand itself explains that the engine operates normally as long as the ethanol concentration remains below 50% in certain low temperature conditions.

France shows that the problem is not just the motorcycle
And here appears the main obstacle for a technology like this to spread throughout Europe: gas stations. suzuki considers that the ethanol supply infrastructure is one of the decisive factors for motorcycles FFV may make sense outside of markets like India. AND France offers precisely the opposite example to that of many European countries.
In November 2025, France had already exceeded 4,000 service stations with E85approximately 42% of its network. According to Bioethanol Franceabout 93% of the French population lives less than 10 km from a station that offers this fuel.

The Spanish scenario is very different. own Ministry for the Ecological Transition maintains information on the stations that sell bioethanol, but the E85 continues to have a very limited presence against the E5 gasoline and E10. Therefore, although technically a motorcycle like the Gixxer SF 250 FFV could be interesting for Europe, first there would have to be a sufficiently extensive infrastructure to make its daily use viable.
For now, there is no confirmation that suzuki go to market the Gixxer SF 250 FFV in Spain or in other European markets. In fact, Suzuki’s own documentation makes it clear that this version has been developed for the Indian market.

On the other hand, suzuki You are not alone on this path. Other manufacturers are also investigating fuels with higher renewable content.
