When a natural disaster hits a population, after the initial impact and after reviewing all the damage, both human and material, the time comes for reconstruction. This is perhaps one of the hardest parts because it confirms the reality of the facts, the losses are no longer theoretical but real, palpable.
This is what happened in the Philippines, where Typhoon Carina hit the southwestern part of the country with force, directly affecting more than four and a half million people, an estimated 1.2 million families, and causing innumerable material damage, in addition to nearly forty deaths.
The impact is so great that some 90 schools in the country have been affected and 20,000 farmers have reported damage. That is why every initiative counts, and even more so if it is an initiative like the one launched by Suzuki.
The Japanese manufacturer, through its subsidiary in the Philippines, has launched the SHARE (Suzuki Helps, Aids and Rebuilds) program, where they have provided service to those affected free of charge in some cases and with large discounts in others.
Free oil change and discounts for those affected by the typhoon in the Philippines
The part where they have offered their services free of charge has been the motorcycle inspection and oil change. Meanwhile, for other types of parts such as oil and air filters, etc., the discount has been 30%.
They have tried to help the areas of Manila, which were severely affected, and also the neighbouring provinces of Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite and Tarlac. It is estimated that users will save around 50 dollars. Although this figure will not change their lives, it is a small support with which to get back on track.
It remains to be seen whether this initiative will catch on with other manufacturers, something the Filipino people are hoping for.
