“Race of the Titans”: Winning Genetics
In “Race of the Titans” depicts the battle fought by Steve Hislop and Carl Fogarty in 1992 within the Senior TT category. Although Fogarty did not want to compete in the legendary British race again, his need for funds to return to WSBK pushed him to return riding a Yamaha OW01.
For his part, Steve “The Flying Haggis” Hislop was initially without a motorcycle, but Norton offered him the chance to compete with his 588 NRS, even counting on the support of the Isle of Man tourist office, which managed to raise £10,000 for facilitate the participation of the local brand.
Throughout the almost two hours and 228 miles of the demanding and dizzying test, Hislop managed to accumulate a minimal advantage over Fogarty, reaching a distance of up to 7.4 seconds in some sections of the route. However, as MCN colleagues say, a pit stop by the Scot meant practically losing the space cushion with respect to the Australian.
In the last lap, Fogarty even managed to break the record set by Hislop himself in the previous lap, lowering his mark by 3 seconds. But it was not enough to end up winning, as the Norton driver finally crossed the finish line 4.4 seconds behind the Australian.
