Time flies, so much so that a motorcycle that was an emblem of modernity and paved the way for the sports bikes we have today turns 30 years old. We talk about the Ducati 916a motorcycle of unattainable beauty for its time that, despite the passage of time, remains as admirable and striking as the first day.
And to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of the Ducati 916, Borgo Panigale has put together a WDW 2024 event where it will be the centre of attention. Once again, World Ducati Week will be held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, which will once again be dressed in red for three days during which not only the 916, but also the 996 and 998 will have a place in the celebration.
The Ducati 916, 996 and 998 have achieved no less than 121 race victories, 8 constructors’ titles and 6 riders’ titles in the WSBK. A figure that makes the saga the most successful to date, and which has been ridden by great legends such as Troy Bayliss and Carl Fogarty, who will be there this weekend and who will also be out on the track.
But in addition to action on the track, there will be an exhibition “Ducati 916: the essence of Ducati DNA” which will cover the history of the saga, displaying some of the most legendary models. As expected, there will be racing and production bikes, winning models. However, there are two that will attract attention, the first 916 Senna, which died in an accident in 1994, and Massimo Tamburini’s own 916, which was loaned for the occasion by the family.
The census of the Ducati 916, 996 and 998 can be done through the My Ducati APP
As if all this were not enough recognition of the saga, the owners of 916/996/998 will also be protagonists. Starting with WDW 2024, a census of the three legendary motorcycles will be launched to establish direct contact with the owners who, in addition, will receive some exclusive digital content and will be included in some unique experiences that we will learn about later.
The good news, if you’re not going to be able to attend WDW 2024, is that you can participate in the census through the My Ducati App by adding the bike to the Digital Garage and uploading the necessary documentation. And if you’re thinking of taking the plunge, you should know that there are still tickets on sale on the Ducati website.
