The digitalization of motorcycles and scooters is no longer a promise for the future, but rather a consolidated reality… And with it also come new threats. In this context, the Royal Automobile Club of Spain (RACE) has presented RACE CyberAutoa specific insurance designed to cover cyber risks associated with connected 2-wheeled vehicles, with an accessible proposal compatible with any insurer.
Technological evolution has profoundly transformed the concept of a motorcycle in recent years. Systems keylessconnectivity with the smartphone or applications linked to the vehicle have improved the user experience, but have also introduced vulnerabilities that until now did not have specific coverage in the insurance market.
In fact, according to data from the RACE Driver Observatory, 84.5% of vehicle users acknowledge being worried about the possibility of suffering a cyber attack, a concern that is not limited to the automobile and also extends to the field of 2 wheels. In this scenario, risks such as cloning of electronic keys, unauthorized access to digital systems or even remote locking of the vehicle cease to be hypotheses and become potential situations that require adapted solutions.
This is how RACE CiberAuto is born
Thus, and to respond to this new reality, the Royal Automobile Club of Spain has launched RACE CyberAutoa complementary insurance that can be contracted without having to change companies or be a member of the club. The policy starts at a price of 19.99 euros per year for members and 24.99 euros for non-members, positioning itself as an accessible option to incorporate an additional layer of protection.
Among the coverages included, the product includes specialized technical assistance in the event of digital incidents, recovery of access to the vehicle in the event of a lock, protection against cloning of electronic keys, as well as coverage of expenses derived from a cyber attack. Added to this is legal advice in the case of cybercrime and preventive monitoring services to detect possible digital exposures.
The development of this insurance is supported by the technological experience of the RACEwhich already incorporated solutions based on artificial intelligence in its roadside assistance services more than a decade ago. This project has been carried out in collaboration with Lazarus Technologyspecialized in cybersecurity, with the aim of transferring advanced detection and response capabilities to the field of connected mobility.
As we are seeing, it is a specific coverage against cyber risks in connected vehicles (a solution unprecedented until now in Spain) that is also especially relevant in motorcycles and scooters, increasingly exposed due to the use of systems. keylessapps and mobile connectivity.
