The legendary Yamaha Jog could be back in 2025. But now it would be electric and made by Honda

It has been 8 years since Honda and Yamaha signed a collaboration agreement to jointly develop electric scooters and mopeds. It seems that the time to start this adventure could be closer after learning that the tuning fork firm has recently registered the commercial patent “Jog One”. We could be facing the return of an emblematic acronym with more than 4 decades of history, although this time in a plug-in version.

This information, which we have recently learned thanks to the Japanese media Young Machine, clarifies that Yamaha has requested the registration of a total of 46 patents, among which would be that of this future Jog One. It could end up being developed on the EM1 platform. e: from Honda.

Yamaha Jog One: The first of several electric models

If you remember last August we already told you that Honda would be in charge of manufacturing Yamaha’s next electric scooters, using the current EM1 e: and Benly e: I as their platform. These are powered by the interchangeable Honda Mobile Power Pack e battery: which meet the frequent specifications.

This decision is the result of the relationships that both brands have maintained for years in pursuit of a common project in this segment. Already then, one of the three points included in the first collaboration agreement signed by Honda and Yamaha alluded to the fact that “Honda could start supplying 50cc scooters to Yamaha based on the current Honda Tact and Honda Giorno that they would convert into their Yamaha Jog and Yamaha Vino.”

If we extrapolate this to 2024 and the intention of both brands to continue advancing in the electrical sector, we can see how the procedure will be more or less the same, but using the aforementioned Honda plug-in models. As the golden wing firm explained in its own press release:

“To further popularize electric motorcycles in the Class 1 category in Japan, the two companies will improve their product line and continue to address various challenges facing electric motorcycles, such as range, charging time, performance and cost, as the two companies strive to contribute to the realization of a carbon-neutral society.”

In short, it is more than likely that next year Yamaha will have a plug-in Jog among its ranks. In any case, the brand has already announced that it is working on the development of new electric models outside of the active collaboration it maintains with Honda. This includes a range of electric scooters and probably some other models intended to meet the classic needs of other two-wheeled segments.
