A few months ago, at the beginning of the year, we told you about a monstrous motorcycle. So monstrous that we had no doubt that it could appear in a Mad Max movie. In fact, to refresh your memory, we are talking about a motorcycle whose main characteristic is that it has 46-inch wheels, almost five feet in diameter.
But the creation of Grind Hard Plumbing Co. is much more than a pair of large wheels adapted to a motorcycle, because the project has consisted of creating practically all the parts of this monstrous motorcycle. To complicate it a little more, they decided that the wheels were single-sided and that is always an extra challenge, and even more so when we are talking about a handmade project.
Because that's another, they have been building or modifying both the chassis and the rest of the elements by hand. To give you an idea, they even adapted the pattern of the wheels by cutting some of the existing studs, in order to give it the shape that a motorcycle needs to be able to drive.
So there has been a lot of radial, a lot of welding and a lot of ingenuity before reaching the real test by fire, with the Max Mad aesthetic at its peak since much of the steel used has rusted, and the post-apocalyptic pose has been finished embroidered.
Is the monster bike effective?
After preparing the project, it was time to see if the monster motorcycle was effective and, well, if we consider the fact that it can move to be effective, we can say yes. The KTM 1290 Super Adventure engine with its 160 HP is capable of moving the assembly, which has to weigh its own weight.
Now, what is practical for going through the countryside, you don't see it much. It needs more meters to turn than a bus, because with those wheels tilting is not an option. In fact, in the video you can see that when you lean the bike a little it tends to tip over and, of course, when it gains inertia, not even Marc Márquez himself would be able to save it.
There are still modifications to be made and, in fact, you can see how they modify some things on the fly to be able to adapt the bike. A great job for some guys who are capable, through desire, means and knowledge, of doing almost anything they set their minds to.
