Without a doubt, the Monkey 125 It is one of the most charismatic models of the catalog of Sling. His compact silhouette, his retro air and his casual attitude have fallen in love with Motorists around the world. Now, everything indicates that the brand of the Golden Wing wants to give an adventurous turn to this endearing minimoto and are planning a possible Honda Monkey Baja 125. What, how do you stay?
The possible arrival of a Honda Monkey Baja 125 It would be the return of a fun, light and charisma concept. A small but capable motorcycle, which does not intend to be a pure trail, but an ideal “mini adventure” for those who want to get out of the asphalt with style and without complications.
Faithful to the original spirit of the Monkeythis “low” version would add an extra adventure and nostalgia ingredient. And although it has not yet been officially announced, everything seems to indicate that Honda could have another instant success.
As we are telling you, according to specialized media, Honda would be working on an off-road version that would pay tribute, again, to the mythical XLR 250those indestructible monocylindrical that made a name in the very hard Low 1000the iconic off -road race that crosses the desert of Baja California, in Mexico.
It would not be a competition motorcycle, but a new reinterpretation with recreational and adventurers. Remind you that it would be the second time, since there was already a Low Monkey 34 years ago. But, we will tell you more about this motorcycle a little below.
Without any doubt, talking about a 125 cc is talking about one of the most important segments in the market. As we all know, in many European countries, including Spain, it is enough to have the car card with more than three years old to be able to drive motorcycles of this displacement, which makes the 125 the entrance door for thousands of new motorists every year.
Honda knows it well and offers a wide range in this segment: from practice CB125F to the iconic Super Cub C125through the urbanite MSX125 GROMthe sympathetic Dax St125 Or, of course, our protagonist, the Monkey 125. Machine that, by the way, has conquered nostalgic and new users equally. And, in this context, a low version would further expand this family with a distinctive model and off -road personality.
What would the future Honda Monkey Baja 125 be?
Although there is no official confirmation, the leaks and renders that circulate in Japanese media point to a technical basis practically identical to the current Monkey 125which makes a lot of sense. Obviously, it would reduce costs and maintain an already very proven and reliable platform.
Among the expected changes would be included: double front beacon with metal protectors, a hallmark of the Classic Rally motorcycles of Honda. Suspensions of greater tour, designed to face paths without asphalting more comfort. Wide mixed tires, to improve traction out of the asphalt. Elevated fenders, as in the classic Scrambler. A possible rear monkey -inherited monkey MSX125 GROMfor greater robustness. And, finally, certain protection elements, such as a practical cover or a small dome on top of the headlights.
At the mechanical level, everything indicates that it would maintain the 125 cc monocylindrical engine refrigerated by electronic injection (PGM-FI), which delivers some 9.4 hpnext to a five -speed gearbox. The current 12 -inch wheels could be maintained, although with reinforced tires for mixed use. The weight, key in this type of motorcycles, would be around 105 kg.
A model with history: the original low monkey of the 90s
The idea of a Monkey SUV is not new. In 1991, Sling already launched a special edition called Low Monkeydirectly inspired by the XLR 250. That version bet on an aggressive image and a higher driving posture, with wide and double front handlebar.
The model had a peculiar aesthetic, with winks to the world of the rally: dome on the headlights, wider tires, hand protectors and striking decorations. It was so successful that it remained in production until 1993, with small improvements and new color combinations. As it cannot be otherwise, today it is a cult motorcycle among Japanese collectors.
But when will this new Monkey Baja 125? For now, everything that exists is rumors, digital sketches and much illusion. No official images or confirmations by Sling. But the fact that several media coincide in the existence of the project indicates that at least its viability is being explored.
Nor would it be strange if it appeared as a limited edition, as has recently happened with other reinterpreted vintage models. Its potential is large, especially in markets such as Thai, American, Japanese or even the European, where the Monkey He has always had a very good reception.
We’ll see, a blind man said.
