There is a Yamaha Mechanics World Cup. It’s called WTGP and it’s like a motorcycle race.

He Yamaha World Technician Grand Prix (WTGP) 2025, is a global competition for motorcycle technicians of the Japanese brand. It will take place in Japan on November 19 under the motto “Master your craft, leave your mark.”

Twenty-two participants from around the world, winners of their respective regional qualifiers, must demonstrate their skills in an elite competition to win the title of “#1 Yamaha Motorcycle TechnicianThe event will also commemorate Yamaha Motor’s 70th anniversary and will be broadcast live for the first time.

The WTGP 2025 celebrates its 9th edition

Yamaha Motor’s motorcycle sales network spans 180 countries and territories, and within it are technicians who support customers’ motorcycle lifestyle with their exceptional maintenance skills. To ensure that customers receive high-quality technical service that meets Yamaha standards, the brand implements the globally standardized Yamaha Technical Academy (YTA) training program, where approximately 35,000 YTA certified technicians work around the world.

The WTGP 2025, which began in 2002 and celebrates its ninth edition this year, is the global stage where these technicians can demonstrate their maintenance skills. Matsumura Yogi, from Yamaha Motor’s Customer Experience Business Unit, explains:

“The WTGP on this occasion also commemorates our 70th anniversary, and as it is the first event in seven years due to the pandemic, both the countries sending their participants and all the headquarters staff preparing for it are more excited than ever.”

Technicians will compete in different model categories, testing their maintenance and customer service skills. The technical skills portion of WTGP 2025 presents a scenario where a customer’s motorcycle arrives at the shop with an unknown problem. “Technicians must identify multiple hidden causes of the problem and make the correct repairs within the established time frame”explains Matsumura.

When a contestant successfully completes the repair and the engine starts, the sound fills the room with tension, and the spectators constantly cheer and applaud. The WTGP also offers motorcycle enthusiasts the opportunity to see how their bikes are handled in the workshop.

“We hope that those who watch the live broadcast enjoy seeing what the professionals at the top of motorcycle maintenance can do and feel the tension in the venue, as if they were experiencing a new Olympic event for the first time”Matsumura continues.
