The world of security, within the automotive sector, is constantly enriched with innovative technologies such as the new U – -shaped external airbag. According to the Japanese firm, they become the first brand in standarding in series an element of this type, although this leading technology has been investigating from other companies in the sector, such as Volvo, Toyota or BMW.

The outer -shaped external airbag only available to Japan
In any case, the Japanese brand, after conducting a field study related to fatal accidents in which some of its models were involved, proved a statistic to the amazing as worrying: 44% of this type of accidents were caused by people outside a vehicle. That is, pedestrians, cyclists or motorists.
Already then, in 2016, Impreza equipped a specific pedestrian airbag. However, this was not effective when the one involved in the accident against one of the models marketed by Subaru was a cyclist or a motorist. Basically, because the latter, generally, are usually dismissed, with the consequent impact against the highest car of the car, such as the front moon or the side pillars.
Hence the idea of this external U -shaped airbag, precisely in charge of covering the aforementioned surfaces in order to cushion any impact against them. In addition, its form, once expanded, does not interfere with the driver’s vision, a key aspect when designing this type of system.
In recent years, the world of airbags, aimed at protecting the integrity of two -wheeled vehicles, has grown exponentially. Either with new systems installed on the motorcycle itself or others designed to make them equipe the pilot himself, the final objective is always the same, although with different levels of efficiency, obviously.
That is why when we know technological displays related to this matter, such as this external airbag in the form of a patented by Subaru, we can only greatly rejoice that brands have these latent concerns when designing the safety systems of their new models. As a negative point in this matter we have its presence barely testimonial within the automobile sector.
For now, the U – -shaped external airbag will be equipped by the new Forester and will be offered exclusively in the model that is currently marketed in the Japanese market. We assume that in order to reach other international markets, initially, the huge homologation tests established in each of them will have to pass.
