We arrive at SBK Portugal 2024 with Toprak Razgatlioglu on the verge of a more than possible record of 11 consecutive victories and with Álvaro Bautista hoping to get out of his bad streak and reach his 100th podium. If he succeeds, the Talavera native would be the seventh rider in the history of the championship to reach such a figure.
One of those 7 riders is Jonathan Rea, who is also the only one to have ridden in all 35 WSBK races that have taken place at Portimao since the circuit was launched in 2008. In addition, the Briton also holds the record of 25 podium finishes at the Portuguese track. These figures serve to remind us that Johnny is a rider to always keep in mind despite the poor results he has accumulated this season. His adaptation to Yamaha and his new team (Pata Prometeon Yamaha) has not been easy for the 6-time champion of the category.
Toprak’s closest challenger, Nicolo Bulega, will be keen to arrive at the Portuguese circuit and reminisce about the good times he had last year, when he claimed his 14th win of the ’23 season and, with it, the Supersport championship. This will surely be a good extra motivation to try to close the gap of 64 points that currently separate him from the Turkish leader.
Another of the additions that will add interest to the SBK Portugal 2024 event in Portimao will be its new evening schedule.
