Why settle for 4 cylinders and can have 9 and two times? The history of the whitelock Kawasaki

Right now, the normal thing in the market is that we find ourselves as motorcycles from one to six cylinders. But at the time Simon Whitelock created a kawasaki to which he put, neither more nor less than nine, and the one he called Triple-Triple and yes, it is as madness as it seems although in the end we will tell you others that were still more.

To create the triple-tripe with its nine cylinders in W and that is two times, Whitelock turned to three engines of the Kawasaki Kh 250 of the seventies. Starting from those engines, which were online tetraconic, a project began that 1,000 hours later, ended up resulting in one of the most extravagant motorcycles that one can imagine.

The work of placing the three engines was not easy

And it was one thing to work on the idea and another to start it. To do this he had to attach the three engines by straight front gears. This did not alter the disposition of the crankshaft dolls or the ignition intervals every 120 degrees. An arduous task to create a final engine that cubed almost 750 cubic centimeters (747 to be exact), and offered a total power above 75 hp.

It was not light, or practice, but Simon Whitelock’s motorcycle really worked

Do not forget that we are facing a two -stroke and that power with a toy chassis and a weight of about 220 kg was not to take it to a joke. In fact, based on a KH chassis that had to lengthen and widen. In addition, he chose the gearbox of a KH 500, which could better assimilate the power than those of the small 250.

Best of all, the motorcycle came to work, although Whitelock himself confirmed that it was not easy to drive. As much as to estimate that it would have a maximum speed close to 200 kilometers per hour.

Crafts in its purest form and a thunderous sound
Crafts in its purest form and a thunderous sound

Well, although this invention of Mr. Simon may seem crazy, it is not really. Some time later he built a seven -cylinder online engine and a 48 -cylinder engine, both two times. Without a doubt, peculiar creations with little practical sense but demonstrated a great ingenuity by Whitelock.
