Inspired by the trips that their parents made years ago through the African continent, Álex Costa, Lucas Poch and Pablo Poch They started in September “Down To Africa”an adventure that will take them from Barcelona to Cape Town through 17 countries in just over three months.
This challenge, which will culminate in December, is a perfect opportunity to understand what a motorcycle needs to travel more than 20,000 kilometers in such demanding conditions. Kappa has joined this challenge that seeks to revive the essence of motorcycle travel and immerse yourself in the most authentic Africa.
With the same desire to get out of their own way, venture into the unknown and travel unthinkable distances, the Italian firm has equipped the three members of this expedition with saddlebags from the extensive K’Rugged range.
Down To Africa: A trip that leaves its mark
From the endless dunes of Mauritania to the humid jungles of Guinea, Down To Africa has become a succession of extreme landscapes, human encounters and moments of introspection. It is not just about reaching your destination, but about understanding the diversity, harshness and beauty of a territory that, despite the passage of time, retains its capacity for wonder intact.
But not every adventure is an easy and comfortable path, behind this trip lies meticulous planning and many possible complexities that arise. Every detail must be taken into account: from the most viable and safest route to the most appropriate type of motorcycle and equipment. This is how Down to Africa decided to rely on Kappa.
Experiences of this type bring moments that undoubtedly leave their mark, from the most exciting to the most complicated. Alex tells of his amazement when passing through one of the villages in the Ivory Coast, where he had been as a volunteer twelve years ago. A reunion that perfectly sums up the spirit of Down to Africa.
A journey where adventure and emotion are intertwined with the generosity of those who, with simplicity, turn each stage into a lesson in humanity. However, there are also hard moments as Lucas Poch says when they were held at the Ghana border for two nights with the uncertainty of what will happen.
Kappa as a reference in equipment
To overcome all the adversities that arise along the way, these three adventurers value the importance of carrying good equipment: “Luggage is key, and good saddlebags are essential. We were clear that we wanted soft saddlebags that were 100% waterproof, so the saddlebags that Kappa provided us with were ideal for what we wanted.”
The AV04, AV05 and AV07 saddlebags of the range K´Rugged of Kappa that Alex, Lucas and Pablo equip their Royal Enfield Himalayan are anchored with the comfortable Monokey system, which allows them to have the structure, on the one hand, and the waterproof bags on the other, facilitating disassembly without having to carry unnecessary weight, something that they loved and helped them during the trip.
Packing planning has also played a key role in this Down to Africa adventure. Based on their experience, the guys recommend bringing the essentials, with comfortable equipment that allows you to enjoy driving more. In this aspect, the concept of a soft suitcase also gives that extra confidence of knowing that if the bag suffers any blow, it will not break.
Finally, the explorers look ahead and cast their wishes for the second half of the journey. Continue enjoying Africa, its authenticity, its contrasts, its jungles and landscapes, and be able to reach the destination with the three motorcycles.
