Yamaha MT-07 2025: revolution in the dark

The new Yamaha MT-07 2025 represents a great turning point within what the naked twin cylinder represents in the Yamaha catalog. It must be remembered that when it arrived in 2014, it did so with a futuristic and aggressive style that the Japanese manufacturer made known as the “Dark Side of Japan.” Thanks to this design and also the functionality that it has always boasted, the Yamaha MT-07 has earned a place in Europe where it can be considered a sales success.

Now, the Yamaha MT-07 2025 will continue to maintain that design and its character, but it is renewed at the same time seeking greater performance as well as a more comfortable ride capable of adapting to the different situations it faces. To achieve this, the changes that have been carried out are important enough that they concern the chassis, the engine, the electronic part and, as it could not be otherwise, the aesthetic part.

All of these changes separately would have already meant a great renovation of the 2025 Yamaha MT-07, but the combination of all of them makes the renovation complete and we are talking about a truly new model. Logically, it meets all the standards we could expect from the MT-07, but they go one step further.

A step in which, in addition, the driving position also varies in search of greater comfort. All these characteristics are shared by both the version with manual transmission and the one that incorporates automatic transmission, the Yamaha MT-07 Y-AM, whose weight is 186 kg compared to the manual transmission version with 183 kg.

Changes to the engine of the Yamaha MT-07 2025

The Yamaha MT-07 2025 will continue to use the CP2 engine, the three-cylinder that it has had since its creation. But in this fourth generation the 690 cc engine has received changes that, although they do not affect power, are noticeable at least on a sensory level.

And in search of a greater bike-rider connection, the ignition has been adjusted to generate an even more peculiar sound through an acoustic amplification system. To achieve this, Yamaha has optimized the size, shape and arrangement of the intake components, including the air filter, intake duct, intake nozzle and intake covers, channeling sound waves to the user.

Although the clutch is not, strictly speaking, part of the engine, it is an essential part to transmit its power to the rear wheel. In this case we find the Y-AMT assisted slipper clutch patented by Yamaha.

Inside, thanks to two paddles, the downshift is smoother and more stable and at the same time reduces the force that the driver has to apply with the lever by around 22%. In addition, they have adjusted the level of slip, seeking more uniform engine behavior when cornering.

The changes in the chassis and cycle part of the Yamaha MT-07 2025

The chassis and the chassis have been completely remodeled, also seeking to integrate all the technical innovations that come as standard and, furthermore, achieving that despite all these technical introductions that, according to Yamaha, would have meant an extra 4 kg of weight, it has been achieved. lighten the weight of the set by one compared to its predecessor.

The chassis is still made of steel tube and although it maintains the weight of 14.8 kg, they have achieved between 12 and 13% more torsional, longitudinal and lateral rigidity. It also changes the swingarm axle, which is also new, with new shapes, thicknesses and reinforcements. The swingarm itself has also been redesigned.

The rims are 480 grams lighter and have been manufactured with the patented Yamaha Sprinforging technique that allows the rim to be thinner and lighter. As for the tires, there are also changes, since it is equipped with the Dunlop Sportmax Q5A.

Another aspect in the cycle part that changes and is fundamental is the suspensions, with a 41 mm inverted fork that seeks a firmer sensation to which the seat posts also contribute, which are almost half a kilo lighter than in the previous model. In the rear axle, the shock absorber and linkage system have been updated to compensate for the changes in the front axle.

Regarding the brakes section, for the first time it includes four-piston radially mounted calipers, which increases the rigidity of the assembly during braking and theoretically offers better braking power.

The engine is still the CP2, but it has received changes

The electronic and connectivity changes of the Yamaha MT-07 2025

Today everything related to electronic management and connectivity is essential and that is why Yamaha has given them all a spin. To begin with, the 5-inch TFT screen offers all the necessary information, but also through the free Garmin StreetCross app you can pair your mobile phone with the instrumentation to have the navigator on it. Logically, this is achieved thanks to the connectivity that Yamaha offers through MyRide, which also makes it possible to receive calls on the go, manage music while driving, as well as make changes to the YRC mode settings of the motorcycle.

Likewise, the controls have been developed with important changes inside and also outside in terms of feel and shape. With this they are looking for an intuitive system that makes it easier for the user to use. In addition, the turn signals incorporate three new functions in addition to the usual and emergency modes.

There is the “three flashes” function by gently pressing the button, the strong press that turns them on normally and the auto-cancellation that automatically turns them off after 15 seconds if the motorcycle has traveled 150 meters in that time.

The changes cover absolutely all the vital points of the motorcycle

The aesthetic changes of the Yamaha MT-07 2025

For last we have left the changes that are most apparent, those that we can see from the outside with the naked eye. And the 2025 Yamaha MT-07 has a completely new design with a completely new body and redesigned bifunctional LED headlights.

Seeking to maintain the character of the MT and make it look unchanged despite the changes, the designs have sought to maintain the line of “The dark side of Japan” by combining the black parts of the motorcycle with a striking and sculpted body, which will be available in three color combinations: Ice Storm, Icon Blue and Tech Black.

The chassis and swingarm also change in this version
