Yamaha XT500 of 1988 put in its original box

We assume that it is not usual to be in its original packaging a Yamaha XT500 of 1988, or at least it is not something that, a priori, happens every day. It is not an issue that at this point surprises us, taking into account this trend (to keep a motorcycle for years without giving any use), which seems increasingly common, mainly fruit of speculation and business that move according to the model and version of which we are talking about.

Yamaha XT500 of 1988 in detail

On this occasion we are facing an iconic XT500 marketed by Yamaha between 1975 and 1989. The unit in question is currently announced on the official RM Sotheby’s website and it is expected to collect for it a final figure of between 15 and 25 thousand euros. Supplied at the time by the Japanese factory to the Parisian motorcycle dealership Leuridan Motos et Cyclesis located in a state Nos (New Old Stock), since it was not even assembled, keeping it in its original box to this day.

The theory that is considered on this exceptional specimen of Yamaha’s offroad model, according to a vintage letter Japanese Motorcycle Club from the United Kingdom, is what “The motorcycle was probably manufactured in 1986, specifically for the French market and for the 1986 model year. Subsequently, it enrolled in September 1988,” since Your odometer, still on the motorcycle, zero kilometers brand.

As for the model itself, the Yamaha XT500 dominated the first editions of the Trans-Frican Rally of the late 70s and early 80s, such as the Paris-Abiyán-Niza and the Paris-Dakar. His reputation as a robust motorcycle caused the fans of the time to be attracted to their attributes. Especially for its efficient four -stroke monocylindrical engine and 499 CC, coupled to a five -speed gearbox. But also by an achieved driving position and a soft and linear power delivery.

Its cycle part enjoyed a steel tubular chassis as a main element. This adhered a conventional telehidraulic fork, two lateral rear shock absorbers and a pair of brake drums, one per axle. The 21 and 18 -inch radial tires, in front and behind respectively, were clear with tires clearly focused on an offroad driving.

There is no doubt that the XT500 is a truly representative motorcycle within the off -road segment of the late last century. If we unite the fact of being able to release in a copy of the model in 2025, it is clear that we are facing a true two -wheeled icon that, surely, will enjoy the interest of motorcycle collectors in general and lovers of the particular model.
