You can’t miss it, John McGuinness brings together his most epic IOMTT bikes

Yes, it’s a dream. John McGuinness celebrates 30 years in IOMTT with an exhibition of their “most special motorcycles, helmets and memories.” As if that were not enough, the sample will be free and can be visited at the «Mercury Club«, next to the main stand, from August 19 to 28. The organization of IOMTT has prepared a tour of different stages of the career of the man known as “Morecambe Missile”, with motorcycles, overalls, helmets, photographs, souvenirs and audiovisual material.

It is not just about placing several racing motorcycles together, in total about 10. McGuinness, from a Honda RS250R to becoming a legend

McGuinness He competed in his first TT in 1996 on a Honda RS250R and finished fifteenth in the race Lightweightin addition to achieving recognition for the best newcomer. 3 years later his first victory would come, precisely in the 250 cc category with Sling.

That Sling of his early years represents the beginning of a career that would end up accumulating 23 victories in the IOMTT. In addition, the exhibition will also recover the machine with which he achieved that first victory in 1999, allowing us to see up close the enormous transformation that the competition has undergone over the last 30 years.

Without a doubt, another of the featured chapters will be starring the Yamaha R1 with which McGuinness He achieved his first Superbike victory in 2004. That year was especially important for the Briton, since he achieved three victories and began to definitively establish himself among the great figures of the TT.

McGuinness’ Honda that exceeded an average of 209 km/h for the first time

But if there is a motorcycle capable of summarizing the dimension of McGuinness in the TT, it is probably the Sling with which he made history in 2007. During the “Centenary TT“, the Englishman became the first driver to overcome the barrier of 130 mph per lap on the Mountain Course. In “Spanish”, we are talking about more than 209 km/h average speed on a 60.7 km route full of curves, changes in elevation, houses, walls and areas with practically no margin for error. Any inconvenience can cost you your life, as we all know.

McGuinness He then clocked 130.354 mph, about 209.78 km/h, on the second lap of the Senior TT. That performance made him the first man to officially break the mythical 130 mph barrier on the Isle of Man. The organization has confirmed that, in addition, during the 2026 Classic TT McGuinness He will perform a commemorative lap precisely on that machine, using the same jumpsuit, gloves and helmet that he wore in 2007.

Then another historic Honda arrived: that of the 2015 Senior TT

The exhibition will also allow you to contemplate the Honda CBR1000RR with which McGuinness He returned to the top of the Senior TT in 2015. Without a doubt, that victory had a special meaning. It was number 23 of his career in the IOMTT and the seventh in the Senior, a figure that still keeps the Briton among the most successful drivers who have competed on the Isle of Man. In addition, during that edition he established a lap of 132.701 mph, approximately 213.56 km/h, which remained his personal best record.

The selection of competition machines prepared for the “Mercury Club” covers precisely those great moments: from the debut in 1996 to his hundredth participation in the TT in 2022, passing through his first victory, his first Superbike victory, the historic 130 mph lap and the victory of the Senior TT in 2015.

Different pieces of equipment used during his career, photographs and personal memorabilia will also be on display, including items relating to the MBE he received for his services to competitive motorcycling.

The experience McGuinness It will be completed with a small cinema on the premises itself, where racing images and archival material related to the Briton’s career will be projected.

30 years later, McGuinness is still competing

This tribute comes at a particularly significant time. McGuinness debuted in Mountain Course in 1996 and three decades later he continues competing on the Isle of Man. In 2026 he will be present again in the Classic TT and will be one of the big names in an edition that will also feature drivers such as Michael Dunlop, Dean Harrison, Peter Hickman either Michael Rutter.

The Classic TT program also includes a special lap of McGuinness on Friday, August 28 at 3:30 p.m. It will be one of the most anticipated moments of an edition that celebrates three decades of a relationship that is very difficult to match between “pilot, machine and circuit.”

And perhaps that is precisely the attraction of this exhibition. TT bikes don’t usually have the pristine look of a museum machine. They are competition machines taken to the limit, full of modifications, repairs, special parts and solutions designed to survive one of the most demanding and dangerous circuits in the world. They are literally risking their lives.

Admission to the exhibition will be free and will remain open during the development of Classic TT 2026.
