Just a year ago, MV Agusta faced a new stage with the return of the company to family control Sardarov after his separation from KTM. The Italian brand was then talking about growth, new models and even the possibility of one day reaching MotoGP. However, the scenario now drawn by various reports is radically different.
As we have learned, «Production at the Schiranna factory in Varese has been stopped since April 2026 due to financial problems and accumulated difficulties with suppliers«. The same information points to delays in the supply of spare parts and to dealers who are barely receiving new motorcycles.
One of the distributors consulted summarizes the situation in a particularly forceful way: «MV is not producing or delivering anything«. Another dealer claims to have only received one new motorcycle throughout 2026 and states that he has not had spare parts for approximately 2 months either.

CFMOTO appeared as the possible exit for MV Agusta
The movement that could change the course of MV Agusta was related to CFMOTO. The 2 companies would have made progress in recent months on an agreement that contemplated the entry of the Chinese manufacturer into the shareholding of the Italian firm. According to what we knew, the memorandum of understanding contemplated that CFMOTO acquired approximately 49% of MV Agustaaccompanied by a “multi-million dollar investment” aimed at restructuring the company and guaranteeing its continuity. But the agreement, however, ended up breaking down.
The failure of this operation leaves MV Agusta in a particularly delicate position. In fact, the company needed the capital to maintain its industrial activity and address the problems accumulated in the supply chain. Finally, the capital increase of 35 million euros that appeared as approved would not have materialized. Obviously, the lack of new funds would have ended up aggravating problems with suppliers and paralyzing manufacturing.

Sales do not follow either
This financial problem also comes at a time when MV Agusta is far from achieving its business goals. The brand had planned a significant expansion after regaining its independence from KTM. Among its plans were new models and a progressive increase in sales, with the long-term objective of reaching 10,000 motorcycles per year. But, the reality of 2026 is being very different. According to what was published, until the end of July they had only sold 1,238 motorcycles. Some sources point to a sales drop of 54.3%an especially important setback for a company whose production volume was already reduced.
MV Agusta It is a small volume manufacturer and in recent years its sales had ranged approximately between 1,800 and 4,500 motorcycles annually. Therefore, its impact on the world market is limited, but for the company itself and its approximately 185 workers the situation is much more worrying.

A new change in direction
The situation has also caused important movements in the leadership of MV Agusta. Hubert Trunkenpolzone of the key figures during the stage of MV Agusta under the control of KTM and later one of those responsible for the transition to independence, left his position as president of the board of directors on July 20. His departure came after negotiations broke down regarding the investment that was to provide a financial solution to the company.
The situation has even led to information about «possible insolvency proceedings«. There is talk that the management had requested to initiate an extrajudicial procedure of insolvencyalthough this point has not been officially confirmed by MV Agusta and, therefore, it must still be treated as a possibility and not as a fait accompli.
Therefore, rather than talking about an immediate disappearance of MV Agustawhat we have on the table is a new financing crisis that places the historic Italian manufacturer before another decisive moment. After surviving numerous changes of ownership and the complicated time with KTMthe brand once again needs a solution that allows it to keep the doors of its Varese factory open. Could this be the dream opportunity of the Italian nationalists of “Patritalia”?
