Mountains, gorges, forests, moors, valleys, medieval villages and secondary roads where it is still possible to ride for kilometers without encountering hardly any traffic.
And that is precisely what makes a weekend getaway special. You don’t need to organize a big trip or travel thousands of km. All you have to do is choose your destination carefully, book charming accommodation and leave a few hours on Saturday and Sunday to get lost. Because when traveling by motorcycle, getting lost is not always a problem.
Guadalajara and the Serranía
Guadalajara is one of those destinations that can go unnoticed when thinking about great motorcycle trips. And that is precisely where its appeal lies. The province offers a huge variety of secondary roads that cross the Alcarria, the Serranía and some of the most surprising landscapes of the center of the peninsula. Stone towns, ravines, reservoirs, forests and roads that allow you to design very different routes without having to travel too far from Madrid.
The Alto Tajo is one of the great protagonists of any getaway in the area. Its roads allow you to link curves while the landscape constantly changes, going from forested areas to large canyons and moors. Sigüenza, Molina de Aragón, Pastrana or Atienza are also perfect stops to complete the route with heritage, gastronomy and some tourism.

The A-1702known as “The Silent Route“, perfectly summarizes that philosophy. It is about 60 km between Venta de la Pintada, in Gargallo, and the surroundings of Cantavieja, crossing some of the wildest landscapes of Teruel. The region itself recommends traveling through it without haste, stopping at its towns, viewpoints and natural spaces.
But staying only with that road would be missing out on a good part of the region’s appeal. Cantavieja, Mirambel, Villarluengo or Morella allow you to combine driving and tourism without having to travel long distances. And the area’s roads offer numerous mountain passes and very little traffic compared to other better-known destinations.
Peaks of Europe
There are landscapes that seem designed to be traveled by motorcycle. Picos de Europa is, clearly, one of them. Cantabria, Asturias and León offer a combination that is difficult to match: mountain roads, gorges, green valleys and passes that force you to maintain concentration while the landscape makes it difficult not to look up.
The La Hermida Gorge is one of the great classics, but the real attraction is in extending the route and discovering the roads that connect small towns and valleys. Potes can become an excellent base to spend the night and from there plan different routes during the weekend.
It’s also worth making time to detour off the main route. Fuente Dé, Liébana, the Leonese valleys or the Asturian slope allow you to build completely different itineraries. And, of course, you also come here to eat. Lebaniego stew, cheeses, meats, fabada or a good spoon dish are an inseparable part of the experience. Because after 5 hours of curves, gastronomy is no longer a simple stop.
Sierra de Gredos
You don’t always have to travel far to feel like you’ve disappeared for two days. The Sierra de Gredos is one of the great wild cards for downtown bikers. The Puerto del Pico, the Tiétar valley and the roads that surround the massif offer enough km and variety to build a complete getaway.
Arenas de San Pedro, Hoyos del Espino or El Barco de Ávila are some of the points that can serve as a reference. The Puerto del Pico road is one of the classics, but the real pleasure appears when you abandon the most obvious route and begin to link small roads between towns. And here is one more reason to stop: the Barco beans, the meats from Ávila and the traditional mountain cuisine.
A weekend in Gredos can start on Saturday morning in Madrid and end on Sunday afternoon with the feeling of having made a much longer trip.
The Serranía de Ronda

In spring, the flowering of the cherry trees turns Jerte into one of the most spectacular landscapes in Spain. In autumn, the forests offer a completely different side.
