After showing the latest evolution of its new V3R900 E-Compressor, Sling has surprised everyone and everyone with the official presentation of this V3R Super Sports Concepta future sports model that aims to become the natural successor to the current CBR600RR. A topic, on the other hand, that we already discussed recently when we talked about the possibility of developing a SuperSport equipped with this same engine but in a naturally aspirated version.
V3R Super Sports Concept: what we know
For now, the brand has not revealed the details of this striking sports concept. However, if we review the latest news related to this matter, in addition to some collaborative initiatives of the Japanese firm, we can see first-hand that the idea had been brewing within the company for months.
On one side we have the “Onitsuka Tiger Honda Mid Sports Concept”, shown for the first time at Milan Fashion Week 2027 and “based on a mid-displacement sports motorcycle”as Honda stated after its presentation to the media. By carefully observing its shapes and some of the technical elements of its configuration, we came to the clear conclusion that under its fairing painted in Tiger Yellow, the iconic color of Onitsuka Tiger, was a CB750 Hornet.
Later, thanks to specialized Japanese media very close to the brand, we were aware of the imminent staging of what they themselves called V3R 900RR. Finally, officially presented as V3R Super Sports, Honda has ratified the project through this striking sports concept. Decked out with a sharp aerodynamic fairing, it sports a color scheme similar to that shown on the V3R 900 E-Compressor at the last edition of EICMA.
What we can expect
It is still too early to conclude exactly what Honda plans to do with this V3R Super Sports. In any case, we remain attached to the idea of developing a future replacement for its quintessential SuperSport model: the CBR600RR. However, this is not the only possible application of the E-Compressor platform destined to become a new model. There are other options within the bass drum that have also been sounding strongly for some time now.
One of them is to recover one of the most iconic acronyms of the brand of the last forty years: those of CBR900RR. Another, no less important within Honda’s organizational chart, is to once again have among its model offering a new invoice VFR. Either of these two alternatives is totally viable, although in both cases, Honda would break with the technical tradition maintained in both models since their origins.
In the case of the CBR900RR we would be talking about giving up the use of a “four in line” mechanics. Exactly the same thing would happen if you ended up converting this V3R Super Sports Concept into a new model commercially baptized with either of these two names. Even more traumatic would be if the golden wing firm developed a new generation VFR, leaving behind the typical V4 configuration. Something less likely, but also possible.
Let us remember, for example, that at the time, the 2002 VFR800 VTEC left behind one of the model’s distinctive technical features: the lateral gear cascade distribution, moving on to mount a central chain in the center. That is why the arrival of a VFR V3 is totally viable, even though it may be despite the brand’s most staunch purists.
