The famous (and cursed) Euro 5+ regulations were the main reason why Suzuki decided last year in 2025 to announce the end of production of the legendary SV650. A model that, just the previous season, celebrated its 25th anniversary within the two-wheeled sector. Just a few months after that confirmation by the Japanese firm, everything seems to indicate that the return of the unmistakable naked model is, as it says, just around the corner.
Suzuki SV 650: 2027 will mark its return
Firstly, and to put in context the disappearance in 2025 of the SV 650, we must carefully analyze the current alternatives that Suzuki offers us to its everlasting roadster mount. On the one hand we have the GSX-8S, a sporty naked that uses the well-known parallel twin-cylinder engine that the V-Strom 800 debuted at the time. On the other hand, we find the new SV-7GX, in this case powered by a 645 cm³ DOHC Euro 5+ 90-degree V twin-cylinder engine.
It is precisely on the technical platform that gives life to the latter that Suzuki has developed its new generation of SV 650. In fact, the corporate decisions taken by the brand in recent months make all the logic in the world. Let’s not forget that its Crossover model took as a starting point in its mechanical configuration the famous block that the SV 650 had used until that moment.
Currently it comes equipped with electronic fuel injection, liquid cooling and pump lubrication. Its six-speed gearbox has a bidirectional Quickshifter, making it responsible for taking the gears to the rear wheel. 73 HP of power declared by the brand and a maximum torque of 64 Nm at 6,800 rpm. All this, of course, complying with the Euro 5+ regulations.
It is clear that Suzuki was not going to evolve this engine with the intention of using it in a single model. Hence, a new generation SV 650 makes perfect sense right now. Even more so taking into account the history and tradition that the model has among fans of the Hamamatsu brand. So now it’s time to ask, what type of motorcycle does the Japanese company plan to present?…
What we can expect
After the registration of the model this same month of September before the California Air Resources Board (CARB)it is evident that everything is ready for Suzuki to officially unveil its new SV 650. However, as pointed out by international media, “Looking at the classic tubular frame, without the bodywork of the touring-oriented GX model, it is clear: Suzuki can create the new SV 650 from this platform with minimal effort.”
What does this mean? Basically, the future SV 650 will be much more advanced and efficient than its predecessor. We have already talked about the engine, with the relevant update to the well-known Euro5+. However, its cycle part will maintain that characteristic touch that has always defined the SV family. Starting with the aforementioned “house brand” chassis, passing through a conventional front fork and ending with a braking system made up of the classic triple disc arrangement (two in front and one in the rear).
It is in the equipment and finishes section where the SV 650 2027 would go one step further at all levels. Starting with the electronics with the adoption of the Suzuki Intelligent Ride System (SIRS), which includes the Ride-by-Wire electronic throttle, the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) with three driving modes and the STCS traction control with three levels. A 4.2-inch color TFT screen, full LED lighting and connectivity through the Suzuki Ride Connect+ application would complete the standard equipment of the new model.
When will the model be presented
At this point it only remains to elucidate the exact moment in which Suzuki will show the public its new SV 650. Inevitably, taking into account its proximity in time, the most likely thing is that the brand will take advantage of the incomparable framework that it will offer them. EICMA 2026 to make his return official. If confirmed, it would not be until early 2027 when the first units of the model would arrive at the brand’s official dealerships.
