Many years have passed since Álex Rins began his career as a rider, so many that he still won his CEV champion title with a 125 before moving on to the Moto3 World Championship. Since his arrival in the championship he was one of the reference riders, first precisely in the Moto3 category, where he finished fifth in his first season to be runner-up in 2013 and third in 2014.
He followed the same trend in his jump to Moto2, where he only spent two seasons to finish runner-up in his first year and third in the second. With that excellent letter of introduction, which, it is true, could have lacked the previous title that he surely would have achieved due to ability and talent, he arrived at MotoGP.
2017 was not an easy year, a hard fall conditioned that season in which he only competed in 13 GPs. But from then on it began to grow, adding podiums and victories, progressing at the end of the season from fifth in 2018 to fourth in 2019 and, from there, to third place in 2020, which was very peculiar for obvious reasons.
It seemed that the project with Suzuki was on the right track and after a small setback in 2021 they took flight in 2022 at a competitive level, despite the fact that the Hamamatsu firm decided to leave MotoGP, forgetting about the contracts. Even so, Álex achieved a new victory and finished seventh.
Without many options on the table, Rins ended up in the LCR and with a Honda far from being competitive, but he still achieved what has been his last victory to date in a legendary GP of the Americas. But bad luck caught up with him, and a fall in Mugello shortly after caused a serious injury that, without a doubt, has affected him ever since.
His signing to Yamaha at the worst moment in the history of Iwata’s team has not helped much and now, with no options to continue in MotoGP, he has decided to put aside the offers that came from Superbike and MotoAmerica to speed up the possibilities of a project about which he has not said anything because it is not closed but which, in his own words, he is very excited about.

In this way, and it is not usual, Álex has decided to put an end to a career in which he has managed to win 18 GPs, add 17 pole positions and 58 podiums. The icing on the cake would have been, no doubt, a title that has been hard-won. But, as he says, it is a career to be very proud of. He will certainly be missed in MotoGP, but we wish him the best of luck on his next adventure.
Alex Rins: “I won’t go to WorldSBK next year,” said Rins. «I had two possibilities there. I want to thank them because they were quite interested in me. But I found something else that motivates me much more. As I told you a few races ago, I have a very interesting project in mind that I cannot reveal because it is not 100% done.
I am very happy. Without a doubt, it has been difficult to choose, because my entire life has been linked to MotoGP, to this championship, to many fights, many races and many victories. 14 years, more or less. So yes, I will leave the two wheels.
