With the Indian government’s push towards greener mobility, two-wheeler manufacturers are shifting their focus towards alternative fuels like CNG and ethanol.
So, Bajaj will unveil its first ethanol-powered motorcycle next month, but the production-spec model will likely be launched in India later this year or early next year.
What do we know about Bajaj’s new ethanol-powered motorcycle?
Despite this announcement, no details have yet been revealed about what this new motorcycle will be like. Bajaj. And, obviously, we have the doubt. Will it be a completely new model, as was the Bajaj Freedom 125or will they adapt an existing model to run on E100 (100% ethanol) fuel?
We think that Bajaj Auto The company will probably opt to modify an existing model from its catalogue, which would allow it to reduce research and development costs. In addition, it is very likely that it will be launched under the Pulsar Group brand, a brand that is well-known and appreciated by local consumers.
To date, apart from the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V E100no other manufacturer has launched or introduced an E100 motorcycle in India. However, in the “Bharat Mobility Show 2024«several manufacturers showed their models compatible with E85 (85% ethanol).
Please note that motorcycles that run on E100 use 100% ethanol fuel. This translates into lower operating costs. However, compared to gasoline, ethanol has a corrosive nature that could deteriorate certain plastic and rubber parts in the engine over time. This is why manufacturers will have to carry out a considerable redesign to address this challenge.
