Benda ups the ante with a range of hybrid, boxer and six-cylinder engines

Just a few weeks ago we told you about the Benda P51 Concept, a prototype presented at the recently held CIMA Motor 2025, and equipped with a 250 cc boxer engine with 70 HP and hybrid technology. Now we have learned about the new range of high-performance Benda engines with which it will equip new models in different segments of the two-wheeled sector.

New range of Benda engines in detail

Benda has demonstrated in recent years why it is already one of the reference brands within the wide amalgamation of companies that currently operate on the Asian continent. A reliable proof of the power of innovation and development that it has is the presentation of three totally different mechanics at the last edition of CIMA Motor in Chongqing.

In relation to this new range of Benda engines, as detailed by the Chinese firm, “The architecture is intentionally modular: future applications are expected to encompass pure combustion, hybrid and electrified propulsion systems.”

550 cc inline four-cylinder engine

The first of Benda’s engines has a four-cylinder in-line configuration and its performance is focused on growing high specific power thanks to having a wide range of revolutions. Regarding this mechanics, Benda clarifies that its main features include a redesigned intake duct that increases air mass flow and allows greater engine power.

The engine also equips an electronic throttle to precisely control the opening of the gas and optimizing the delivery of torque throughout the revolution range. This approach seeks to improve emissions performance, we assume with a clear intention to equip models that can be marketed in markets such as Europe, while optimizing maneuverability and long-term reliability.

700 cc boxer twin-cylinder engine

The second bet within this new range of Benda engines is a 700 cc boxer-type engine that uses a DOHC configuration for greater smoothness and a low level of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH). As detailed by the brand, its cylinders have advanced ceramic coating technology, with a surface hardness of up to ~1500 HV (compared to ~400 HV for conventional metal finishes).

This treatment significantly reduces the friction of the metal with the pistons, reducing wear rates by 60% to 80% and allowing the components to operate at temperatures of up to 450°C, well above the limits of traditional materials. As relevant information, this engine is based on a modular engine architecture, and a hybridization system can be applied.

In the words of the Chinese firm itself, “The platform can be configured for pure electric, conventional internal combustion or parallel hybrid power, allowing for a perfect balance between efficiency and performance.”

1700 cc inline six-cylinder engine

Finally, as the star element of this new range of Benda engines, we have a 1,700 cc inline six-cylinder block with a structural crankcase design that reduces the total weight of the frame, while increasing the rigidity of the chassis and the stability of the model that mounts it.

Likewise, a separate oil reservoir system (split crankcase) improves transmission efficiency and prevents unnecessary oil splashing on the gears and crankshaft at high speeds, thus prolonging its life and reliability.

It is expected that a new EM-DCT (electromagnetically actuated double clutch transmission) shifting system will end up being implemented in this block, thus offering a smoother and more efficient power transfer. A mechanism of this caliber would be intended to power high-end touring models, thus seeking to establish a benchmark in terms of power, performance and comfort over long distances.
