There are many motorcycles inspired by the Japanese Akira saga that have reached the SMN editorial office. However, almost all of them try to adopt the silhouette of the iconic mount piloted by its protagonist, Kaneda. However, today we want to show you this preparation on a BMW R nineT, the work of Pier City Customswhich although trying to pay homage to the well-known and futuristic fictional motorcycle, has a personal halo that makes it very special.
We discovered it thanks to Piper Burn's colleagues, present at the Bike Shed Moto Show where this BMW R nineT “Akira” by Pier City Customs was displayed. PCC's Rory argues that: “It was a custom build requested by the client. Based on the motorcycle of the anime movie character Akira, the owner works in movies and is a big fan of the saga!”
BMW R nineT “Akira” in detail
The main idea of this customization was the following: Build an Akira preparation that would maintain unchanged the versatility and usefulness of the motorcycle used as the basis of the project. Perhaps that is why we opted for this BMW nineT to which, in addition to aesthetics, countless modifications and improvements have been made until reaching the final result that we see in these images.
To highlight in this PCC preparation:
- Öhlins STX 46 Blackline rear shock absorber
- Improved front fork with top internal components
- Le Motographe CNC Double Clamp
- Racer variant front wheel with polishing treatment
- Racer variant rear wheel with “Akira style” side caps
- BMW S1000RR front fender
- AC Schnitzer BMW R9T GRP lower fin
- Le Motographe rear tail
- PCC handcrafted seat with exclusive upholstery, etc.
The PCC team comments that: “We worked with our friends at Valkyrie who offered to paint the bike to a 'movie prop' level and we are delighted with the results. “It's based on a schematic we found to see 'behind the fairing' how the bike would have been built.” The aged finish details are truly incredible and offer us a very personal touch in this preparation.
Mechanically, the guys at PCC installed a custom air intake and a G&G Bike exhaust system. To top it all off, the BMW R nineT “Akira” by Pier City Customs includes rear footpegs from Gilles Tooling and Motogadget and Highsider lighting. A movie motorcycle that faithfully captures the Akira essence without losing the possibility of being used in a conventional way.
