There has been talk for some time about a new version of the legendary Ford Ranger. Although the pick-up segment is one of the most traditional and they still have a lot of attachment to diesel, it seems that electrification had to come and there was no better model to introduce it than the one from the oval brand. It will not be immediate, as its production will begin in 2024 and marketing at the beginning of 2025. In any case, we can already welcome the Ford Ranger Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV).
It is the first model to opt for a plug-in hybrid propulsion system that will allow it to carry the DGT ZERO label and benefit from a series of advantages. The chosen scheme consists of the combination of 2.3 EcoBoost four-cylinder engine in the front position with an electric motor. It would also be completed with a lithium-ion battery, which is what gives it the status of plug-in. There is still not much concrete data, the combined power level and also the capacity of said battery are unknown.
What Ford does make clear is that its Ranger PHEV will have a electric range of 45 kilometers. That opens up the possibilities and makes us think that it will have a larger battery than the Kuga PHEV, which has 14.4 kWh and allows it to have that autonomy, since the demand in the pick-up is higher. In any case, they also promise the highest level of torque in the range and that means exceed the 600 Nm of the diesel variant. It will be a very capable variant that will benefit from electricity on other levels.
They maintain the towing capacity of 3,500 kg and add the Pro Power Onboard System with a power socket on the rear surface. This will allow users to charge their tools and electrical appliances anywhere, without the need to carry generators on board. The Plug-in Hybrid Ranger cannot be missing the driving modes for manage battery charge (we assume it will have Save and Charge), in addition to the off-road capabilities that have made the model famous for many years. The rest of the details and the price of this long-awaited version will be announced later.
