The Yamaha R3, as conceived by the Japanese brand, could be said to be a sports motorcycle suitable for those riders who want to gain experience in two wheels in general and in “RR” mounts in particular. But of course, if the guys at TTS Performance put their magic at the service of the model in the form of a compressor, the docile R3 can become an instant “record breaker.”
That is precisely what has happened with this Yamaha R3, owned by Matt, a citizen residing in Nevada, USA, who installed one of the famous TTS Performance supercharging kits in order to improve the performance of his mount. Needless to say, he has achieved it, increasing the power of his R3 exponentially.
Yamaha R3 by TTS Performance: A record-breaking preparation
Or rather, several records, although we left that for last. First let’s go with the figures that have made it possible to reach this milestone on a Yamaha R3: 230 km/h and 78 HP of power at 14,000 rpm. This means that we are facing a gain of almost 100% in terms of “horsepower”. Taking into account that a standard R3 delivers approximately 42 HP of power, you can apply a rule of three to confirm this information.
For this purpose, the 310 cc displacement has been maintained, but, as we have learned from the colleagues at Visor Down, they have been installed “custom JE forged low compression pistons, Carrillo connecting rods, a stock cryogenically treated crankshaft and it also features a ported superbike cam from Norton Motorsports.” To complete this preparation, the guys from TTS Performance did their bit with a Rotrex C15-16 centrifugal supercharger kit.
The efficiency of this mechanical monstrosity has made it possible break up to 6 records in the Utah salt flats. Four of them were new AMA national records, managing to reach a maximum speed in one of them. 142.44 mphor what is the same, just over 230 km/h. The other two records are world records and ratified by the FIM, although none of them required reaching the maximum speed that this supercharged R3 can develop.
