Fuchs launches in Europe its first products in packaging made with 100% recycled materials

The Fuchs Group, specialist in offering innovative lubrication solutions, has presented its new packaging made with 100% recycled materials. Founded in 1931 as a family business in Mannheim, Fuchs is now the world’s largest independent supplier in its sector. It currently operates in more than 50 countries, sharing the same objective in all of them: keeping the world moving in a sustainable and efficient way.

Now, thanks to a previous agreement with different supplier companies and greater collaboration in the supply chain, Fuchs brings fully recycled packaging to Europe. It is expected to distribute more than 5 million bottles by the end of the year. As part of its sustainability commitments, the brand intends to extend this initiative to the entire world.

The Fuchs Group always committed to the environment

By using fully recycled materials, the company reduces fossil-based packaging material and reduces carbon emissions. Each 1L and 5L bottle now has a total CO₂ footprint 68% lower than when recycled elements were not included. To achieve this result, Fuchs has improved production technology in collaboration with its supplier companies, without compromising quality, but streamlining the production process.

As part of its overall sustainability commitment, Fuchs has set out to reduce emissions across the entire value chain by at least 90%, compared to the base year 2021, through medium-term targets in 2030 to meet the goal of “Net Zero” by 2040. In addition to working on its material base, according to the latest annual sustainability report, the brand has reduced its door-to-door corporate carbon footprint by 14.8% since 2021, which which covers all emissions within the company’s doors and which Fuchs can directly influence.

The packaging project is just one example of the company’s ACT (Advanced Circular Technologies) program, which encompasses all measures to reduce the use of fossil materials and replace them with circular materials. Bastian KellerDirector of Global Product Management for Automotive Lubricants, states:

“Through the practical and functional integration of secondary raw materials, while maintaining quality and meeting specification requirements, we can now celebrate this milestone of 100% recycled materials. However, this is just one step in our commitment to sustainability, not the end goal. “We are looking forward to extending this to more product ranges and geographies as we remain committed to sustainable options.”

Concludes: “Such a change requires commitment and collaboration, a rethinking of the process, technology and product sourcing. By taking a gradual approach to this point, we have been able to gain experience and feedback from customer companies to ensure the product meets their needs and those of the environment.”

In addition to the commitment to increase recycled content in packaging, FUCHS has plans to transition to 100% green electricity by 2025, having increased the share to more than 50% in 2023.
