Honda North Carolina Manufacturing Celebrates 40th Anniversary with Electrification on the Horizon

Honda Motos is celebrating and is also doing so by directing its range towards the electrificationas the brand recently stated at the events held for the 40th anniversary of Honda North Carolina Manufacturing (NCM) Honda’s exclusive off-road vehicle manufacturing facility in North America.

In addition, it has done so by inaugurating new welding and painting operations for Offroad Vehicles (ATV). These improvements are part of a 21.5 million dollar investment, for which Honda North Carolina Manufacturing It would become Honda’s first production facility in the North American region to manufacture future Honda models and electrical equipment.

Honda North Carolina Manufacturing: 40 Years of Innovation

Kazuhiro TakizawaPresident and CEO, and Bob Nelsonexecutive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc., joined NCM associates and invited attendees to a ceremony to officially open the new welding and painting operations at the Swepsonville facility. This completes the transfer of off-road vehicle production from Honda South Carolina Manufacturing (SCM) in Timmonsville, SC, to Honda North Carolina Manufacturing.

SCM, meanwhile, will focus exclusively on the production of Honda side-by-side vehicles. Last year, SCM expanded production of such models, celebrating 25 years of production in Timmonsville. Mark Kohlsvice president of recreational vehicles and Honda products, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. said:

“Our decision to make North Carolina the home of Honda’s off-road vehicles today and our powersports and power equipment products of tomorrow builds on the 40-year commitment of Honda associates in the Tar Heel State to building quality Honda products for our customers.”

Over the past four decades, NCM associates have continually developed their manufacturing capabilities to build a variety of Honda products to meet customer needs, starting with lawn mowers in 1984, followed by snow blowers, brush cutters, mini tillers, water pumps, generators and general-purpose engines.

In 2023, NCM added off-road vehicles to its production line, effectively ushering in a new era of powersports vehicles at the former power equipment plant. NCM’s current production of offroad models includes the popular 2023 NCM Offroad Series. Honda FourTrax and the TRX sports models.

NCM began producing power equipment in North Carolina on August 6, 1984, as Honda’s third U.S. manufacturing plant, producing walk-behind lawn mowers. In 1993, Honda established a new research and development center in an adjacent facility dedicated to power equipment products.

NCM, a facility of more than 60,000 m², represents a current capital investment of $416.5 million. In 40 years, NCM has manufactured more than 50 million products.
