The Porsche Canopy is the premium tent that someone might buy

Camping is all the rage. And for some curious reason we can’t quite fathom, it seems even Porsche wants you to sleep on, in and around its cars. If we were to make a list of cars, the Porsche 911 wouldn’t be in our top one hundred or two hundred choices for camping, but for some reason we can’t quite fathom, it was the model that served as the showcase for the brand’s official roof-top tent.

In Stuttgart, it seems that from the beginning they have understood who usually goes camping with the Porsche Canopyan inflatable tent that attaches to the tailgate of a four-door Porsche, transforming it into a kind of campsite. Those who own a Porsche Panamera, Porsche Macan or Porsche Cayenne will have plenty for a hotel, but now they are adding this option for an alternative holiday.

Designed to accommodate up to six people, the Porsche Canopy tent is supported by an air frame that is inflated by a hand pump. It offers a 2.3 x 2.3 metre square space under an inflated roof that can protect road trippers from the sun and light rain.

To prevent the first gust of wind from blowing it away, the Canopy tent is anchored to the vehicle using elastic bands and suction cups and is also fixed to the ground with stakes. Porsche also points out that it can also be used to load or unload the trunk without getting wet when it rains… but you would have to set up or take down the tent in the rain first, something is wrong with that idea.

In addition to the vehicle connection tunnel, the Canopy Tent Basic Kit includes a removable floor secured with Velcro and a roll-up wall with window, which stops the wind and serves as additional protection against sun and rain.

From there, Porsche offers a variety of modular add-ons to enable customers to increase the space as needed. They can add three more walls to create a fully enclosed shelter, a tent, or even a connecting tunnel to create a multi-canopy campsite that serves as an entrance for Porsche drivers.

Porsche launched the Canopy tent this summer, together with “a leading brand” in the sector. The Porsche canopy, without a floor, vehicle tunnel, walls or other accessories, costs 1,547 euros. Upon further investigation, you discover that the brand they work with is Dometic, which offers the Dometic Hub, of identical dimensions, for 700 euros. Quite a difference in price for a few Porsche logos… but of course, not having the official store (the basic package costs 2,183 dollars) wouldn’t be the same, right?
