Honda Prelude Concept: A Preview of the Next Hybrid Step

Many will remember the original Honda Prelude, that sporty coupe model that was quite successful in the 80s and 90s. This model, always stood out for its level of innovationbeing the first of the brand with an electric sunroof or the one that introduced four-wheel steering in 1987 (third generation). Now the Japanese firm seems willing to recover this legendary model and has presented the Honda Prelude ConceptIt is a prototype to celebrate 25 years of the brand’s hybrids and a statement of intent.

It is confirmation that there will be a production Honda Prelude after More than two decades fallowIt was in 2001 when the fifth generation was discontinued and now they want to bring it back to life in a somewhat different way. The premises are to achieve a great driving pleasure, while maintaining an outstanding level of efficiency. That is why they also confirm that it will be available with a hybrid propulsion system which goes a step beyond what they currently have in their range.

In the current generation Civic, ZR-V or CR-V there is a system consisting of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with an Atkinson cycle along with two electric motors (generator and impeller) and a small battery. 184 hp of power and efficient performance are achieved, although the next one could be more. The Honda Prelude Concept wants to position as the sportiest of the range and that translates into (probably) a higher level of power and performance.

Design There is little to add. Everything points to the production Prelude being very similar to this concept and that is cause for celebration. It takes courage to bring a new three-door coupe into the world of SUVs and the lines of the Honda are certain to They are quite attractive. One could highlight the narrow headlights that are more reminiscent of those of the NSX than the retractable ones of the original, also the sloping roofline ending in a spoiler or the black details that include sporty rims. If the old one had the Accord platform, the future one could be based on the Civic.
