Jack Doohan completes what his father could not do, competing in F1

It is not the first time that a Doohan is going to get into an F1. In fact, Jack himself has already done it in training. Although it will be the first race for a Doohan in the F1 World Championship.

Regarding the adventures of the Doohans with the engine, what Jack is going to achieve is the culmination for a family that already saw how Mick reached the premier category of motorcycling but later made history by achieving five consecutive titles.

But Jack Doohan never saw his father compete, because he was born four years after Mick left the competition and five years since his last title. However, at 21 years old, he is one of the pearls of world motorsport and, in fact, will be a permanent driver in the F1 World Championship in 2025, although for now he will debut this weekend in the last GP of the season.

Furthermore, as a nod to his father that other drivers have also had (Daemon Hill, Mick Schumacher, Gelete Nieto…), he does so with a helmet design that reminds us of the legendary one that Michael used.

Jack’s helmet is a tribute to his father’s

There is no doubt that the Doohans’ passion for speed is something that runs in their blood, but perhaps due to the serious consequences of their motorcycle activity, Michael encouraged his son more on the side of four wheels where he himself made his first steps. at the time. In fact, Mick came to compete in the V8 Supercars of Australia, monsters that do not have the aerodynamics of the F1, but are spectacular.

Mick Doohan’s approach to F1 was quite daunting, but Jack promises

What was nothing spectacular was Michael’s debut in F1. Of course, we have to go back to 1998 to see him at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya testing the Williams FW19 in one of those wonderful tests that were done from time to time and that were open to the public.

Through a common sponsor, Michael Doohan could get closer to the dream of many of driving an F1, but that dream was ending quickly. Only four corners before a spin. Fortunately, there was no major damage and the Australian was able to go out on the track again to show that he did not feel as comfortable as he did on two wheels.

And that’s curious because other motorcycle drivers who have tried F1 have felt comfortable from the beginning, but Mick is a being from another planet and what suits the rest of us mortals doesn’t suit him.

The one who does expect great things in the future is his son Jack, from whom great results are expected and who has been burning through stages, standing out although without being the protagonist. Even in that way the Doohans are similar…

Happy drivers
