We always complain that leaders often look at the short term and not the long term. Well, on this occasion, the leaders of Laguna Seca have been able to look so far ahead that it’s dizzying. “Friends of Laguna Seca,” the local organization that looks after the track and the area surrounding it, has a plan for the next 55 years.
Yes, more than half a century in advance, as the members of this non-profit organization have done. It should be remembered that a few months ago Laguna Seca seemed to be on the ropes because some neighbors (it is speculated that it could have even been just one) demanded through an association the immediate closure of the facilities.
Somehow and outside the courts, the matter has been settled and thus it is once again recovering as if by magic from a more than possible end like the one it already had in 2020. In fact, it should be remembered that Laguna Seca currently has its activity limited to 35 events per year.
And now, having overcome this setback, those responsible for the Californian circuit are ready to launch a more than ambitious plan that, as we said, is further ahead in time than any other plan for a race track that we have seen.
The “Friends of Laguna Seca” are looking to modernize the entire complex
This project, which seeks to “bring Laguna Seca” to the present, is the reality that despite being one of the iconic tracks on the world scene, one of the problems it has is that it needs to modernize and adapt to the needs that the world of motor sport has today.
The track and surrounding areas will be remodeled with private funding, while improving maintenance and promoting activities around the circuit. In doing so, they also hope to be a driving force for the area of Monterrey County in which it is located.
There is no doubt that this is great news for all motorsports fans, as this track that has been able to put the best riders in history on the ropes has been languishing for years. It has not hosted a MotoGP race since 2013 and a WSBK race since 2019, but will these races ever return to the Californian track? Only time will tell.
