It is unusual for a brand with six decades of history to achieve an anniversary that translates into a product that works both for the nostalgic and for those looking for their first 125 cc scooter. Lambretta has achieved this with the new J 125, presented as one of the great protagonists of the last EICMA in Milan and which now lands on the Spanish market.
The original model, the Lambretta J from 1964, was at the time a commitment to lightness and accessibility within the range of the Italian brand. Sixty years later, the brand does not limit itself to copying that design: it reinterprets it with a completely current visual language, supported by surf culture and the beach environment.
The former Lambretta factory that survived abandonment will have a very different second life
The most recognizable element of this new stage is a piece located on the front shield that evokes a small surfboard, which has become the hallmark of the model and the basis of the entire customization system.
Real customization, not just catalog
Here is one of the most interesting selling points of the J 125: Lambretta has developed interchangeable graphic kits for the front, fenders and other body elements, allowing each owner to configure a practically unique unit without having to resort to the aftermarket. Added to this is the collaboration with Dutch artist Piet Linnebank, responsible for the Art on Wheels collection, which fuses figurative art and comic aesthetics in interchangeable designs. It is not common to see this level of artistic collaboration in the urban 125cc segment, and it is a movement that could set a trend if other brands decide to replicate it.
Despite this aesthetic renovation, the design retains essential historical features: the brand’s characteristic “long and low” silhouette and the unmistakable hexagonal headlight, two elements that any fan of the brand will instantly recognize.
Mechanics and cycle part: coherence with Lambretta DNA

In the technical section, the J 125 has a 124.6cc, four-stroke, four-valve, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, approved according to Euro 5 regulations. Nothing extravagant for the segment, but a coherent approach with the urban and interurban use for which it is intended.
Where there is a clearer declaration of intentions is in the cycle part. The double wishbone front suspension with double shock absorber is a technical solution that has been part of the brand’s history for decades, and seeing it maintained in an entry-level model shows that Lambretta has not wanted to sacrifice identity to simplify costs. It is completed with a preload-adjustable rear monoshock, designed to adjust behavior according to load and user preference.

Braking is provided by 220 mm hydraulic discs on both axles, with dual-channel ABS, while the 12-inch wheels (110/70 front and 120/70 rear) seek that balance between agility in the city and stability at secondary road speeds. The dimensions – 1,890 mm long, 1,340 mm wheelbase and only 790 mm seat height – point to accessibility designed for a wide range of heights, something especially relevant for those starting out with the A1 or AM license.
Equipment designed for everyday life

The J 125 is not far behind in connectivity and comfort. It incorporates a multifunction TFT screen with smartphone connection, USB type A and type C charging ports, and a premium smart key that allows you to unlock, start, open the seat or locate the vehicle without taking it out of your pocket. The 9-liter front tank makes it easy to refuel without lifting the seat, and the space under it has enough space for a full-face helmet, a detail that is appreciated in daily urban use.
Price, range and warranty

The new Lambretta J 125 is now available in Spanish dealerships for 3,999 euros, in five colors – red, black, grey, white and yellow – that reinforce its urban vocation. The brand backs the model with a five-year warranty, no small argument when competing in a segment where perceived reliability weighs as much as design.
With this J 125, Lambretta shows that it is possible to celebrate legacy without staying stuck in it. It is a movement that connects with the biker who values the brand’s heritage, but also with those looking for a 125 scooter with its own personality for their daily life.
