Staying on the MotoGP calendar season after season is not a simple matter, but MotorLand Aragón continues to achieve it even if it is with annual agreements. That is what they have achieved for 2027, since this Wednesday the agreement was signed in Zaragoza between the Government of Aragon (owner of the complex) and MotoGP Sports Entertainment, the promoter of the championship.
It must be remembered that, precisely, the policy followed by the MotoGP promoter, which was previously called Dorna Sports, was to limit the Grand Prix to the Iberian Peninsula, even alternating with other tracks. This reason meant that the track located in Alcañiz did not host any Grand Prix in 2023, but it returned in 2024 and continuity in 2027 has been confirmed.
This agreement extends with the calendar promoter until 2031. From 2028 until then the track designed by Tilke will be a reserve circuit and will become part of the calendar if necessary. At least that’s the agreement.
But returning to the 2027 edition, it arrives, precisely, as if it were a reserve circuit. And in the absence of official confirmation from the championship, this opportunity arises due to the absence of the Hungarian GP. According to different unofficial information, the problems at Balaton Park and the lack of a solution to them have led to the search for alternatives.
This new opportunity comes to MotorLand Aragón after the alleged withdrawal of Balaton Park
One of them passed through the famous Hungaroring, current home of the F1 GP and also the home of the Motorcycle World GP on its two visits before arriving in Balaton. But the track located 30 kilometers from Budapest does not have the necessary safety measures to be approved.
Meanwhile, MotorLand continues to be one of the most modern tracks in the championship and the ability to organize major events such as the MotoGP World Championship and the Superbike World Championship make it the perfect setting. To this we must add the return on investment and, according to official figures, the cost of the GP is 12 million and generates a direct and indirect economic impact of around 25 million. To this we must add that MotorLand with the rest of its activities places its impact in the region at a total close to 50 million annually.
This is possible due to the influx of public, which is around 110,000 people who come to Alcañiz and its surroundings on the GP weekend. After the agreement, Carmelo Ezpeleta declared: “MotorLand Aragón has been an important partner for MotoGP for almost two decades, playing a key role in the championship’s presence in Spain. The renewal for 2027 reflects both the strength of that collaboration and the value that the event brings to the region. We are very pleased to continue working together and to keep Aragón as part of the MotoGP family for years to come as a reserve circuit.”
Meanwhile, Jorge Azcón, president of Aragón, pointed out: “We are pleased to confirm that the Aragon Grand Prix will return next year. The motorcycles will roar again at the Alcañiz circuit in 2027”to add: “MotorLand will also remain linked to MotoGP between 2028 and 2031 as a reserve circuit.”
Of course, we must not forget that before the 2027 edition, on the last weekend of August, the MotoGP World Championship will return to the Teruel track to compete in the 2026 Aragon GP.
