It had been quite a few years since we had heard of a Motus MST, let alone one that was advertised for sale on the used market. So today, more than six years after the definitive closure of the brand, we show you this copy that is currently in Rapid City, South Dakota and it can be yours for the modest price of $15,000, about 14,500 euros at the exchange rate.
Motus MST in detail
As detailed in the header of this article, the Motus MST is a truly unique motorcycle. Not only because at the time it was presented as an exclusive product available to a few. Obviously, there are different aspects that make it very special, such as its characteristic V4 engine, mounted transversely and derived from the American V8.
As we already explained to you at the time, Motus was based in Birmingham, Alabama, and for ten years it was manufacturing the MST and a sportier variant called MST-R. It was a sport touring car in which its engine was derived from a small block V8, but split in two to obtain a V4 mechanics placed transversely. As Honda did in its NC engine, starting from the Honda Jazz block cut in half.
With a displacement of 1,650 ccthe brand declared for the Motus MST a final power of 165 hp at 7,700 rpm and 166 Nm at 5,000 revolutionswhile the R version squeezed the engine up to 185 hp and had an improved cycle section thanks to Ohlins suspensions, Brembo brakes or OZ forged wheels. All of this was enclosed in a tubular chassis built by the specialist Pratt & Miller.
Although these figures and cycle parts made us think of a motorcycle that could offer us extra sensations in sporty driving, the reality was that the Motus MST weighed down a running weight that far exceeded 250 kilos. That and its price, over $30,000, caused the Yankee firm to end up closing its doors in 2018, after seeing its sales reduced, despite the fact that at that time they were in the midst of developing a new model.
Now, thanks to the colleagues at Bike Urious, we have found this unit for sale in the US for which they are asking for just under 15,000 euros and it currently has 25,000 km traveled. As detailed in the announcement itself:
“This rare and unique beast of a motorcycle features a 1,650 cc V4 engine that produces 165 hp and 123 ft lbs of torque. A beautiful, well-made motorcycle with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $30,975. “You have a chance to get this low-mileage piece of art for more than half that price!”
It concludes by referring to the equipment that this unit has: “It comes with a top case, side cases, leather grips, heated seats and cruise control.”
