Porsche’s relationship with competition reaches unsuspected levels. It is one of the brands that gives more importance to its tradition and he demonstrates it with examples with the 718 Cayman GT4 RS x Tag Heuer that we saw a few months ago. Now complete the collection with another vehicle that pays tribute to the successes in the legendary Carrera Panamericana. It is about the Porsche 718 Spyder RS Panamericana Speciala convertible that commemorates the 70th anniversary since the manufacturer’s first participation in the test.
In this case, it is inspired by the Porsche 550 Spyder that won the 1954 Carrera Panamericana in Mexico, which achieved third place in the absolute classification. It was worth it for win in its Sport category for cars up to 1,500 cc and make history. The 718 Spyder RS was taken as a base and a series of modifications were made so that it stay with the same livery. The work has been done by Porsche Latin America in collaboration with Exclusive Manufaktur like other projects of this style.
The performance of the 718 Spyder RS has little to do with that sports car from the 1950s that traveled more than 3,000 kilometers in five days through the arduous terrain of Mexico. However, both they now share that silver color on its exteriors, including the carbon fiber parts of the Weissach package. In contrast, the number 55 is in yellow and the stripes on the rear fins are in red. Also worthy of special mention are magnesium wheels with the TAG Heuer logo and black calipers for the carbon-ceramic brakes.
Inside, the Porsche 718 Spyder RS Panamericana Special is dyed black and has leather inserts and Carmine red leather details on the steering wheel and other areas. You can’t miss the Sonderwunsch inscription and the colors of the Mexican flag, as well as a watch holder integrated under the central armrest. This is because the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon x Porsche Panamericana has been launched alongside this model, a very special watch that is limited to 255 units.
