STLA Frame: this is the new Stellantis platform for large SUVs and pick-ups

Stellantis It is carrying out a cost reduction policy based on cuts and movements that allow it to save. They are working on a series of modular platforms that can give life to a large number of vehicles in their different brands. After seeing the STLA Medium or the STLA Large, now it is the turn of another one with an interesting positioning. The STLA Frame It is the base that large SUVs and pick-ups will use. Plus, we have the good news that they won’t just focus on 100% electric technology.

It is a multi-energy platform which supports internal combustion, hybrid, hydrogen, electric and extended range electric mechanics. In any case, the features are going to be very outstanding, but we have to keep in mind that it will be ideal for large vehicles. It has its sights set on the US market and will benefit mainly to brands like Jeep and Ram. The STLA Frame, manufactured with advanced high-strength steel, will give life to very durable products thanks to high rigidity and lower weight.

First of all, make clear the issue that they will be vehicles more focused on the American market, since the length of vehicles with STLA Frame changes between 5,488 and 5,941 mm. Always with widths greater than two meters, there is talk of a wheelbase of 3,143 to 3,690 mm. There will also be certain off-road vocationsince the ground clearance ranges between 168 and 262 mm. This allows it to have key data such as a fording capacity of up to 610 mm, as well as a towing capacity of up to 6,350 kg and a payload of 1,224 kg.

The flexibility of the STLA Frame will be key to having vehicles electric with up to 800 kilometers of autonomywhile they can reach up to 1,100 kilometers with extended autonomy technology. The electric ones will have a 400 or 800 volt architecture, so fast charging in direct current can reach up to 350 kW of power (175 kW in the 400 V ones). Other details cannot be missing, such as bidirectional charging to supply the vehicle’s energy to other devices or even return it to the grid.

Logically, there will be propulsion variants, but also all-wheel drive. The power of each engine can reach up to 340 HP, in addition to being able to have an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds. It is still early to see the models that are based on this base, but it is clear that the future of large SUVs and pickups from Jeep and Ram is assured.
