A long time ago, the saying “noisy exhausts save lives” was completely disproved and became little more than an urban legend. Even so, and although the automotive industry, driven by legislation, is moving towards quieter mobility, there are those who are crazy about having an exhaust on their motorcycle or car that makes noise, a lot of noise.
We are not going to deny that a good sound from an engine in the correct context is wonderful. Who doesn’t like to listen to a MotoGP with free exhaust or a V12 roaring on the track? Surely everyone who has a heart that pumps blood will be delighted with the idea.
But the problem comes when that noise occurs in places like cities, where there are thousands of people who are affected because a user decides to remove the silencer from their motorcycle or car. Depending on the neighborhoods, this happens more or less, but in almost all of them there is a neighbor who despises the well-being of his fellow citizens as much as the fellow citizens despise the integrity of the aforementioned man’s teeth every time he passes by at 3 in the morning giving the show.
To make noise there are always those who find excuses
The topic is tricky, because there are a thousand strange excuses. From what we said that noise saves lives, to that of “You are going to tell me what exhaust I can or cannot use“But the reality is that there are rules for the good of everyone that must be complied with and in the United Kingdom, which for what they want are much more serious and formal than we are here, they are in favor of establishing more noise controls and, in addition, that the fines be more severe.
This is stated in the study carried out by Auto Express in which they surveyed 1,138 about noise problems. Well, 63%, that is, three out of every five or just over six out of every 10 surveyed, were in favor of stricter measures at ITV in this regard. And be careful, because those who want there to be more repercussions in terms of fines rise to 67%.
And that, as we said, the rules and regulations mean that the indices are increasingly lower and, for example, in the Euro5+ the maximum is 77 dB, and this figure cannot vary when changing the original exhaust system.
The substance of the issue clearly reveals the discomfort that many citizens suffer on a daily basis in the United Kingdom, where more than half of the country’s adults suffer daily problems with noise. The curious thing is that at a time when the industry is moving towards less noisy vehicles and even more so if we talk about electrification, the noisiest ones will stand out more and more.
