Private MotoGP teams have it complicated despite Dorna’s aids, and Tech3 is one of them. Being able to compete with factories, in addition to being customers or collaborators, is not easy. It requires many resources, the situation is always delicate and ensuring the future of the team becomes as priority as competitiveness.
We have seen it in the past and we are currently seeing it, with a Tech3 that has been stability for a few years after leaving its stage of linking with Yamaha, but who sees how his future is not secured with the brand beyond 2026, with everything he supposes.
This was recently recognized by Hervé Poncharal, the maximum representative and owner of Tech3, who claimed that the situation of the team beyond 2026 is an unknown. And it is because the contract that links them with KTM ends at the end of the next season and for the moment, there is no confirmation that the Austrians will continue with their project, and that if they do, collaboration with the Tech3 continues.
The future of Tech3 is assured with or without steiner
In any case that does not mean, much less, that the French team is in danger and that as Poncharal recognized, there are many interested in being part of the structure: «I have many requests to attend, one of them, as they know, is Günther Steiner, with which I like to talk. He is a very direct and very pleasant person to eventually work with him. So right now, I’m listening to the proposal; It could be to come as a shareholder, you know, as a partner, but it could also be to buy the entire team. What I am pressing is to ensure the possibility of being alive and clashing in 2027-2031, I hope that with the name Tech3, with my base, my team and different investors, just to do safe things ».
Precisely Steiner’s name is striking because, although it is stated that there are different interested parties, the only name mentioned is that of the Italian-American and former team leader of the F1 Haas Racing. After leaving the structure of Gene Haas Steiner closely follow the MotoGP competition, and in fact has been this year on two weekends.
What is clear is that it is with Steiner, with Poncharal or with both of them, the Tech3 has rope because as Hervé recognized they are already working for the 2027-2031 period:
“Everything I want and everything that I am working on at this time is even from 2027 to 2031 to decide an agreement with KTM and be the second KTM team on the grill perhaps with different colors, perhaps different investors on my side, but I have never been talking to any other manufacturer at this time. I have read many things, but I can promise you at this time that 100% of our energy is to work with KTM until the end of 2026 2027-2031, with KTM.
