The Bikeriderswhich tells the story of the Vandals, features a renowned cast of actors, Austin Butler, Tom Hardy and Jodie Comer, and focuses on the early days of this biker gang in post-war America. This film captures a rebellious time in America when the culture and people were changing.
Movies about bikers, those characters who in fiction boast absolute freedom, but who end up being little more than gangs of thugs linked to gambling, drugs and weapons, had their heyday at the end of the 1950s and during the 60, with iconic films like «Rebel without a cause«, «EasyRider” either “Wild«.
Afterwards, this quasi-subgenre remained largely dormant until the mid-2000s, when it resurfaced with the popular series “Sons of Anarchy«, which generated the spin-off «Mayans MC» and comedy «wild pigs«. However, not much else was produced in this area. Now director Jeff Nichols seeks to return the lost glory to the biker gangs.
The Bikeriders plot, between love and loyalty
In Bikeriders, after a chance encounter at a local bar, the determined Kathy (Jodie Comer) finds herself hopelessly attracted to Benny (Austin Butler), the newest member of the Midwest motorcycle club, the Vandals, led by the enigmatic Johnny. (Tom Hardy).
Like the country around it, the club begins to evolve, transforming from a gathering place for local outcasts and lovers of the world of two wheels, into a dangerous underworld of violence. So Benny will be forced to choose between Kathy or her loyalty to the club.
The Bikeriders initially debuted at the Telluride Film Festival in August 2023, and was scheduled to premiere in December of that same year. However, Screen Actors Guild strikes in 2023 delayed its release. The official premiere of the film in Spain, as we told you at the time, is scheduled for July 12.
