B.S.A. returns to the arena of novelties at EICMA 2025. Its new Thunderbolt demonstrates the brand’s intention to continue advancing strategically and commercially within the two-wheeled sector, after its relaunch in 2021. Since then, three models have been born in this long-awaited return: Gold Star retro, Bantam 350 and Scrambler 650.
Now, with the arrival of this fourth option, the British firm enters fully into the adventure segment, undoubtedly one of the most in demand today by fans. And it does so through a model that, a priori, promises a high degree of versatility, as well as a good level of equipment. All this without neglecting key aspects of a frame of this type such as its aesthetics or including a cutting-edge electronic system.
BSA Thunderbolt 2026: The icon is reinvented
The original Thunderbolt, marketed by the brand between 1962 and 1972, offered a high level of versatility thanks to having good capabilities both on and off the road. This philosophy is what we have tried to implement in this new reissue of the model more than half a century after it stopped being manufactured in its original version.
To this end, BSA has not spared any effort in developing a state-of-the-art platform equipped with a 334 cc, DOHC, liquid-cooled single-cylinder Euro 5+ engine, capable of generating a maximum power of 29.16 HP at 8,000 rpm and a torque of 26 Nm at 5,800 revolutions. This is associated with a six-speed gearbox equipped with an assisted slipper clutch system.
In terms of design, it has an aesthetic where an image with a clear rally style prevails. Its “duck-bill” type front fender is a good hallmark of its marked Dakar image. In addition, BSA has not skimped when it comes to equipping its new generation Thunderbolt, providing it with an elaborate compendium of electronic elements and accessories. Among them we can highlight:
- 21/17 inch radial tires
- Rear rack rack
- Traction control
- Three ABS modes (Rain, Road, Off-Road)
- Metallic skid plate
- Adjustable windshield and instrument panel
- Step by step navigation
- Bluetooth connectivity
- USB charging port, etc.
As for its cycle part, it follows the general tone of the set thanks to the use of long-travel suspensions, with a powerful 41 mm inverted front fork and a rear monoshock with adjustable preload. Both elements offer us 200 mm and 180 mm of travel respectively. Its high ground clearance allows us to ride Offroad even on truly steep terrain.
An approximate dry weight of 185kg or a pilot’s seat placed 815 mm from the ground, an accessible level for many of the pilots who decide to use its services. It also has a large fuel tank with the capacity to hold up to 15.5 literswhich presupposes a considerable range of autonomy.
For now, no aspects as relevant as its official price, or the exact moment in which the Thunderbolt will be available in the brand’s official dealers, have been revealed. Those who have spoken about this long-awaited presentation have been the founders of Classic Legends Pvt Ltd, owner of BSA, Anupam Thareja and Boman Irani. “This is the best 350 cc adventure bike in the world. Don’t believe me, try it and prove me wrong”Thareja said.
Continues: “Today we are introducing the new BSA Thunderbolt at EICMA, based on our global platform for adventure motorcycles. This innovative approach allows our three unique brands – BSA, Jawa and Yezdi – to benefit from a shared platform for greater efficiency in our target sales territories, without compromising the distinctive identity of each brand.”
Concludes: “Classic Legends recognizes the unique DNA of each brand, and we recognize our responsibility to ensure that this is always respected and honoured. The essence of BSA is deeply marked by the past: its silhouette, the competitions won, the records broken and the memories lived. It is a true legend of motorcycling. The presentation of the new BSA Thunderbolt at EICMA, the largest international motorcycle show, underlines our intention to return BSA to the world stage.”
For its part, Boman Irani has said: “The new BSA Thunderbolt is ready for adventure and designed to travel long distances. Combining dynamic capabilities both on and off road, unmatched performance and exceptional ease of use, our new bike inspires confidence.”
Concludes: “It is designed for riders with an adventurous spirit who seek new destinations and want to be sure that their motorcycle will not only take them where they want to go, but will give them an exciting experience every moment. BSA doesn’t just make motorcycles, it makes legends, and the new BSA Thunderbolt proudly carries that legacy forward.”
