This month the new Lancia Ypsilon hits the market. It marks the return of a legendary brand to the roads, under the umbrella of Stellantis, positioned as a premium brand, which it always was. And now, manufactured in Spain.
The brand had practically disappeared from Europe, except in Italy, the country of origin that had always been its main market. There it was sustained thanks precisely to the Ypsilon, a utility vehicle with some strong points that are now repeated, also adding others that we analyze below:
unique image
Lancia is a brand that has always taken risks in its designs, with vehicles that leave no one indifferent. And the same thing happens with the new Lancia Ypsilon. Despite sharing a technical base with other Group models, such as the Peugeot 208 or the Opel Corsa, it has a very strong identity of its own.
The three light strips stand out on the front, with the headlights located at the ends, in a lower position than usual. They are the key optics in this vehicle, since at the rear they are inspired by that of the Lancia Stratos, one of the great myths of rallying, unified by a shiny black molding where the brand name appears.
Cabin with personality
There are no very luxurious materials, after all it is a B-segment car, but the most accessible surfaces have a good feel and the seats have upholstery that simulates velvet. There are two 10.25-inch screens, one for the instrument panel and another for the multimedia system, called HALL (Sound Air Light Augmentation) that brings together the sound, air conditioning and lighting functions and has mobile connections via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
There are unusual design resources such as the circular tray for mobile phone charging. In addition, the second row of seats seems suitable for two adults and then there is a cargo space of 352 or 309 liters of capacity, depending on the version chosen.
ECO and ZERO labels
Important: only Ypsilon is sold with the cleanest environmental labels:
- ECHO: He Ypsilon Ibridewhich combines a 1.2 gasoline engine with 101 hp of power and a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, in addition to a 29 HP engine that supports the combustion engine and a 0.89 kWh gross capacity battery that stores energy in the brakes.
- ZERO: He Ypsilon Elettra of 156 HPlinked to the 51 kWh capacity battery with which it certifies 403 km of autonomy. It can be recharged at a maximum power of 100 kW in direct current or 11 kW in alternating current.
Both are available from the end of 2024, but the firm’s past in motorsports has not been forgotten and in 2025 the Ypsilon HF will be added to the range, a 100% electric sports version of 240 HP of powerwith front-wheel drive and mechanical self-locking differential.
Competitive prices
We have to keep in mind that Lancia is placed with Alfa Romeo or DS within the Group… and that said, knowing that the hybrid version has a starting price of 23,900 euros, not including discounts, does not leave it in a bad position given its equipment. . If you choose electric, it goes to 34,500 euros… but whoever can benefit from all the aid is around 26,000 euros.
We need to test it to see how far the differences are with other platform partners. Which there will be, since the chassis is wider and has specific suspensions, which should lead to better dynamism.
