The so-called project “2102”or what is the same, the new Ducati V2 enginecould arrive sooner than we expected, based on the latest images of a new generation Multistrada equipped with the supposed mechanics. Most likely for the next INTERMOT Cologneas clarified by the colleagues at Motorrad Online on their official website.
The reason for a new Ducati V2 engine became quite clear after the launch of the Panigale V2 Superquadro Final Edition, with which the Borgo Panigale brand celebrated the final chapter in the history of the twin-cylinder Superquadro. With 955 cc, this edition limited to 555 units offers 155 HP at 10,750 rpm and a torque of 104 Nm at 9,000 rpm.
The new Ducati V2 engine will debut in a new generation Multistrada
In the early stages of August we gave you the first details about the development of the new Ducati V2 engine. A more rational mechanics than the iconic Superquadro engine, initially conceived to be able to equip a sports frame halfway between the Panigale V2 and a SuperSport 950.
So we would be talking about a vitaminized Supersport? Well, it is likely that this will arrive sooner rather than later, but the first images of the new Ducati V2 engine are accompanied by a Multistrada prototype that predicts big changes in the model itself for the next generation.
To start with the arrival of a new aluminum chassis, as well as a completely redesigned tubular subframe, with the idea of being able to increase the load capacity. Likewise, the swingarm of the current Multistrada is also replaced by a new one. Other essential elements, such as the rear shock absorber, are now shown moved laterally to the left side.
This test mule specifically could be using the platform that the S version mounts, since it is equipped with semi-active front suspension. On the other hand, the remodeling of the front and the repositioning of the flashing equipment are also visible. However, a radar system like the one fitted to the V4 variant of the model is not shown.
At this point, one wonders when the new model from the Italian brand equipped with the new Ducati V2 engine could arrive. If we get carried away by the marketing used in the presentation of the Ducati World Premier 2025we can associate the date of December 5, 2024, under the title “Unlock Everyday Adventure” (unlocks the daily adventure), as the ideal time for the official presentation of this Ducati Multistrada V2 2025.
Using the imagination, in relation to the internal code that gives life to the next Ducati V2 engine, “2102”, the first 2 could refer to the mechanical configuration, two cylinders, while the 102 specify the maximum declared power, in this case offered in KW. This would be equivalent to 138 HPA very accurate intermediate figure for a Multistrada, although it seems somewhat scarce for a Panigale V2 or, failing that, a new generation of Streetfighter.
In this case, the maximum power could be increased to approximately 150 HP. To do this, you should use internal dimensions of 97 or 98 mm in diameter and 62 or 63 mm in the stroke. Given all this, the displacements included in that range of measurements would be between 916 and 950 cc. Can you imagine that the new Ducati V2 engine will be part of a new generation of models baptized under the commercial name 916…? It would be truly epic.
Finally, and once again resorting to the system of mental cabals, we must refer to whether the transalpine firm will finally use the Desmo system or not to configure this Ducati V2 engine. To tell the truth, it is something that is up in the air and that could end up happening or not under equal conditions. Even more so when there would be the possibility of a new 916 model, recalling one of the most iconic acronyms in the history of the Italian firm.
