In the Piaggio plant in Pontedera, in reconstruction after the war, Officina 8 was the headquarters of the prestigious Sperimentale cast. This was the most advanced section, where the boldest projects were created. Since the end of the 1940s, designers, delineators, mechanics, horny teachers and test pilots worked there. All professionals with huge skills, many of them with aeronautical experience.
Those were years of rebirth and all of Europe, which struggled to recover after the terrible storm, and that was crossed by extraordinary Ferments of Renaissance and Creativity. A sense of rediscovered freedom and confidence in the future still to build even inspired the most visionary projects.
In office 8, the new ideas, even the most revolutionary, found their first realization: here they worked on the Vespa project and, later, in the prototypes, both for serial production and for races and records. Templates for tinsmiths, special bodies, sands cast in sand for experimental engines: everything was manufactured internally.
Then, the prototype was delivered to the road testers, who, after tens of thousands of kilometers, decided which model would be included in the production or in the new racing machines. A coveted blue and brass pin, with the registration “Piaggio 8” to place in the work monkeys, distinguished the technicians of the most secret and coveted department of the plant.
Working in these spaces, inaccessible to everyone else, certified the excellence of both a design engineer and a mechanic, a designer or a test pilot. The VESPA that established 17 world speed and resistance records in 1950, which established the flying kilometer record in 1951, the legendary “98 Corsa” and those that dominated the exhausting “sei giorni” off -road race, are just some of the tailored jewels born in office 8.
Each piece was built with artisanal care, enhancing manual work, testimony of the most precious Italian manufacturing. The talent and technical skill were so high that each vehicle that came out of office 8 was a unique specimen, which combined the best technology of his time with the style and elegance that they would make Vespa famous.

The double cover seat also presents a careful finish: the seat with horizontal thermal welding is surrounded by a double contrast seam, while polished brass rivets are one more reference to tradition.
