1984 Ducati 900SS by Purpose Built Moto: “Carbon Café Racer”

Thanks to our colleagues at Visor Down we have learned about this preparation, the work of the Australian specialist Purpose Built Motorcycleon a Ducati 900SS from 1984. A superb job where the quality of the materials and components used, as well as the level of its finishes, make it a true rolling marvel in the form of “Carbon Café Racer”.

According to the protagonists of this project, who have recently published a video with the entire process carried out, “This custom Ducati 900SS café racer came to us in great condition, the owner had a clear vision that was already in motion and wanted Purpose Built Moto to take care of finishing the bike and getting it on the road.”

When the bike arrived at the PBM facilities, it had already undergone a previous restoration process: “The engine had been rebuilt and polished, the wheels rebuilt with stainless steel spokes and nice 18” H-pattern rims. Overall it was a well presented rolling chassis with a very distinctive body kit.”, they comment from PBM.

Furthermore, it was already equipped with carbon fibre parts, previously made by a specialist from the brand who had recently retired. The chassis had also been previously painted red. The set was a splendid base to begin the rest of the preparation which includes, among other elements:

  • A custom exhaust in stainless steel
  • Lighting and a complete rewiring.
  • Ignitech ignition
  • Mikuni Pumper Carburetors
  • PBM Torpedo Silencers
  • Tarozzi handlebar
  • Tomaselli double throttle
  • ECU Moto Black etc.

To top off this Italian beauty, the guys at PBM installed a custom Harley-Davidson fender and an analogue Daytona instrument cluster, complete with speedometer, tachometer and some telltales. After the project was completed, it was tested at the Cube Performance Centre in Australia, home of the Ducati Superbike team in Australia. Ducati 900SS by PBM threw some memorable 65.1 HP of power on the bench, and 54.7 Nm of maximum torque.

Its happy owner is now riding this superb build around the streets of Canberra. We imagine it will be the envy of the neighbourhood, considering the detailed and careful work that the Purpose Built Moto team has done on it.
