It’s been more than eight years since Kawasaki launched that first special edition Sugomi Edition on his Z1000 of the moment. Later, he did the same with the Z800 and now returns with a similar initiative giving life to this limited series carried out on the Z500. Model chosen by the French delegation of the brand for this limited edition of only 400 copies.
The Z500 Sugomi Edition comes with a unique livery kit, with stickers that revisit the curves of the bike to give it an even bolder look. The Japanese “Sugomi” ideogram can be found on the front and side of the fuel tank of this special edition. But what is the “Sugomi” spirit?
Kawasaki Z500 Sugomi Edition: Japanese philosophy of life
As described by the brand itself “The Sugomi spirit is a Japanese concept and refers to a powerful and intimidating aura or presence, inspiring both respect and fear. It describes an impressive force or energy emanating from a being or object, like that of a predator ready to strike.”
The characteristics of the Sugomi spirit in Kawasaki are manifested in:
- A bold and aggressive design: Reminiscent of the stance of a predator about to strike, we find defined lines, a bold silhouette, angular shapes and a headlight evoking piercing eyes.
- Controlled power: The “Sugomi” spirit is not just about looks. It also results in a feeling of total control. It is a balance between brutality and precision, power and agility.
- Presence: When we talk about “Sugomi”, we also refer to the way the bike “holds itself” on the road, with an intimidating presence. This also affects the riding position, where the rider is ready to dominate the road.
- Sensations: The driver must feel an adrenaline rush, while at the same time adopting a fluid and precise driving style. Almost as if he were taming a wild beast.
In mechanical and technical terms it remains unchanged from the standard version. Equipped with a 451cc parallel twin4-stroke, liquid-cooled, DOHC, 8 valves, achieves a final power of 45.4 hp at 9,000 rpm, with a maximum approved torque of 42.6 Nm. All this for a final declared weight in running order of 172 kilograms.
The chassis is completed by a telescopic front fork, central rear shock absorber, double front disc and a single disc anchored to the rear wheel. The set is completed by two alloy wheels fitted with 110/70R17 tyres at the front and 150/60R17 at the rear.
The Z500 Sugomi Edition is offered in two exclusive colors, with 200 copies for each of them:
- Candy Khaki Red / Spark Black Flat Metallic / Matte Graphene Steel Metallic Grey
- Caramel Lime Green / Spark Black Metallic / Matte Graphene Steel Grey Metallic
